VMA Sharpened vs Infused

every build I look for either a magic NB or Temp say to use a Sharpened Distro Staff, but i'm being told that it would be better to use change to Stam and than used Infused in both the Staff and swords and axes (one handed) VMA weapons which I have a bunch of in inventory right now

I would appreciate any input

tks in advance

Don't listen to those people their idiots. @Zos Has made if so that their only 1 useful trait in the game which is Sharpened. If your not using sharpened on your weapon and your a DPS your hurting your DPS and you how fast you kill people.

Unfriend and ignore whoever told you that immediately, they likely wont have any useful input if they think infused has a chance

and here i thought nothing can be more *** than ZOS implementing 1 insanely OP trait

apparently sharpened >>> absolutely everything else is a hard concept to grasp

The only chance in which you want to use precise ( the only useful trait after Sharpened ) is on a organized trial with bosses at 0 resistances. Other than that sharpened is what you want.

I tried to use an infused maelstrom weapon and its a dps loss. Go sharpened or at the very least precise.

If it's not sharpened it's not worth using.
Use a random crafted staff instead.

Sharpened is a must have for DPS in any good setup for group content, you can get away with it with PUGs or leveling.

Actually had pvp in mind: Mag DK with Molten, 5x Torug and 5x Elegant with either Lightning or Fire Staff

But yeah, guess a Sharpened weapon might be better with that setup than Infused

if sharpened is so much better than precise why is it that when you look at your individual stats when you look at replacing a precise sword with a sharpened it shows a drop is the spell crit %. right now I running with one sharpened and one precise sword on almost all my builds that use dual swords as the stats don't show any improvement when I look at replacing the precise with sharpened. I was able to farm another Mother of Sorrow Sharpened sword today and I looked at replacing the one precise I currently had with it, but when I say that the crit % would drop I didn't and just plan on selling it

maybe some one can take me to school on the various stats

Because penetration isnt a stat on your character screen? Of course you lose spell crit when you take off precise...

99.9% of the time sharpened is better

i'm not saying your wrong, but if what you say is true, than 50% crit is better than 70 plus Crit

It's the unseen damage boost from sharpened that counts. If 32k resistances mitigate 50% of damage then 16k mitigates 25% and 4k mitigates about 6% then 5.2k penetration is equal to about 7/8% more damage, assuming your target has the resistances to penetrate. Does 20% 7% crit equal an 8% damage boost?

You are not going to loss 20% crit from using 2 sharpened swords, you lose 3.5% at most and yes, 2580 spell pen is a greater dps gain then 3.5% crit.

Precise would be best pick if mobs and bosses would have 0 or very low resist but atm bosses have OP resists so u need to use sharpened there is no other way around unless debuffs in you team are that great which is not that easy to achieve...

I pull some actual data from a few different builds I have, with the specific equipment for both options in a day or two and we can go from there with it. that way i'll find should be able to fine tune my setup.

Here's the 1st setup I look at with the 2 swords, as per below:

Here’s the 1st one Magic Dark Elf Templer
    5 TBS - Divines
    2 Gothard – Divines
Neck & Rings - Purple Mother of Sorrow
All the numbers are the same except for the Spell Critical and Weapons Critical
The 1st set will be 1 & 1 Sharpened and Precise, the 2nd will be 2 Sharpened and the 3rd 2 Precise
Blue Magic and Health Food (Normally Run the new 3 food with health and magic and magic recovery)
    Max Magic 42271
    Max Health 18447
    Max Stanama 11910
    Spell Damage 2140
    Spell Critical 75.7%-72.2%-79.2%
    Spell Resistance 14210
    Magic Recovery 1099
    Health Recovery 514
    Weapons Damage 1782
    Weapons Critical 43.7%-40.2%-47.2%
    Physical Resistence 9755
So based on initial input the extra 4% done mean crap vs having 2 Sharpened

If I remember the mathemagics correctly nirnhoned is a 3.2% increase in damage, precise is 3.5% and Sharpened ~12%. Infused is probably the price of a small chicken nugget at McDonalds.

You can get away with precise on the front bar in a good group. You can also get away with Nirnhoned on your back bar. You don't get away with anything else if you're doing PvE DPS.

In PvP you can get away with any trait on the back bar, including infused if you have the spell and weapon damage enchant there. But in PvP anything other than sharpened on the front bar is rubbish.

Using a sharpened 2h or 2x sharp swords is a 12% dmg increase.

It's the best, the maths has been done a while ago by people with more experience than you.

It's pretty badass. You can get around a 6k tooltip with the right setup. Obviously you'll want to run Spinners to make up for the lack of Sharpened on your weapon too.

Amazing to see how many people have said sharpened - surely the OP got it after 2-3 times?
