That they are being real slick with housing. Yea we have heard some talk about it and that first house is free rest is bought with gold. But I really feel like they will come out and be like ok housing dlc 1500 crowns just buy the dlc then get first house free and rest are bought with gold! But no dlc no access! Or they will throw them in with a bigger dlc like their next content update witch you will have to purchase to get your house. I am just wondering will housing be base game patch free for all no crowns tied in? Or will they find a way to make to sneak crowns into this to?

I thought this was the way they would introduce it too.

But there are always ways... Furniture motifs, or whatever they will be called, could be crown bought. Other addons for the home too. We have 3 of each races houses being shown so far. But what about non playable race houses, Dwemer perhaps, maybe those will come later as crown store/dlc houses.

There will be tons of ways to monetize on housing. I just hope they find a balance that both makes them money and keeps us happy.

Actually no,I was hoping you didn't write that, but seeing as you did and I have to read it again in a quote reminds me that they WILL do just that. Which sums up the post.I hope they don't,but they will.

I doubt they would be so bold as to charge Crowns for the houses themselves.

As for everything that goes *IN* the house, however....

They should find a way to sneak crowns into this.

The functional/gameplay parts of housing should be gold purchasable and achievable in the base game with time and effort. Potentially you could rush some of this (or get less great versions of some advantages) with crowns but all gameplay advantages should be achievable within game without crowns. This is things like extra storage, training, vendors, whatever other cool stuff they make housing able to accomodate.

The decorative parts can be as crowny as they like. It'll be a good way for them to make money in a way that will have very little impact on most players. More money will hopefully mean more content. And if you don't care about housing you don't need to invite someone over to see your painting collection of lusty argonians.

Crowns by themselves are inherently a part of this game. It's probably something like 80% of their revenue, if not more. We should be happy for them to make money from products that we willingly buy as long as the base game is competitive for people without further investment.

(Before someone brings them into it ... Crown Crates are somewhat different. They could be construed as gambling and that's a complex moral quandry, thus I don't include them unreservedly in my above statements about embracing crowns.)

    Housing Sneak Peek
Finished adventuring? Perhaps it’s time to return home and put your feet up, but you’ll need a place to call your own. How about a comfortable country dwelling, or a stately manor you can decorate in your own style, and equip with your own cooking fire, blacksmith station, or alchemy table?

You’ll be able to do all of these things and more with ESO’s new Housing system coming early next year. Here’s a sneak peek at some of the Housing system details:
You’ll be able to own as many houses as you like, and house ownership is account-wide.
With Housing, we’ll also be releasing Furniture Crafting — you will be able to sell the furniture you craft to other players.
    • You will be able to invite friends and guildmates to your home.
    • Houses are instanced, so you don’t have to worry about grabbing the perfect spot of land.
    • Your first home is free, and you will be able to purchase additional houses for gold.
    • Houses are designed in different racial styles, and there are small, medium, and large varieties for each — you can own any house styles and sizes you like regardless of your character’s race.
Keep an eye out for more Housing details later this year!
Join us for a fantastic fall season in Tamriel with The Elder Scrolls Online’s latest update, events, and sneak previews, all coming in the month of October. And if you’ll be picking up the PS4 Pro this November, don’t forget that you’ll be able to experience ESO in 4K.

I'm sure they will have housing items in the crown store but they are making housing ingame gold . Furniture will be crafted but ai imagine some things will be crown store exclusive furniture . I am totally fine with this . It's actually the most positive thing they've announced and I won't criticize based on speculation . I am still real happy they did the right move here .

I have some ideas on what I think they are going to do as far as what will be for gold and what for crowns. But I am not going to say it here in case they are not already planning things this way and they think it is an excellent idea and we all end up super broke and its my fault lol

how dare the game I play be run by a company that expects to make money in some way, so that it can continue to employ people to keep making the game I play!

But seriously, as long as it's not something that gives you a gameplay advantage I don't mind what they sell.

I always assumed it would be a paid dlc like hearthfire. Buying the dlc gets you the free house and access to furniture-making and more houses.

I assumed if you get the dlc through eso plus, then stop subscribing, you will keep your house but not be able to improve it. It never occurred to me that people may expect all this as part of a free Base game update!

My guess is that while the houses will be free or purchased for gold, the crown store will be heavily involved with decorating your house. Due to the cosmetic nature of many items, ZoS can freely sprinkle them in the store and crown crates and will likely do so. Sure, you can probably craft many items, but that will be, by design, a gold and time sink that you can bypass with crowns to get your furniture/amenities instantly.

and this i am 100% ok with i just wish they would be open about it right now if you go based of just what they sey it is an in game free patch all gold. But like you said im sure there will be crown store side.

In the link that was posted in another thread (uespwiki) something was mentioned about 5 of the houses being crown store? But is just speculation from data mining as mentions Vvardenfell.

I agree with other posts that have no problem with cosmetic crown store items but do want to be able to most with in game gold (although the house/palace in Stros M'kai better not be too damn expensive as its the one I want if I cant have a ship). It like mounts -can get a decent horse ingame that does the job but if you want the sparkle kitty then you have to pay for it. And that is how it should be. They do need to make <some> money....

I think the clue is in what they said, particularly this...

"Houses are designed in different racial styles, and there are small, medium, and large varieties for each — you can own any house styles and sizes you like regardless of your character’s race"

So I get to choose how big it is and what style? And just like that I get it?

Somehow I suspect not. The "free" house you get on purchase of the DLC will be small and basic. You'll have to buy upgrades with cash.

At least that's how I'd do it, and I can't see ZoS being more generous.

I have no doubt there will be some stuff that's Crown Store. (Likely a couple of houses and some furniture things) but I also don't doubt the fact that they are putting a lot in for in game gold and with furniture crafting so that you don't have to spend an inordinate amount of RL money to have a nice house.

Only reason I would use a house would be if I can store items on it.
Otherwise it will be a waste of time. Just a 2 weeks hype to build it just to be there once per month.

I am hoping basic housing will be in the base game, but after that I am sure there will be many tie in to the crown store for upgrades, functionality, maybe even storage.

Having everyone in the game with a small house is good way to get some folks hooked on housing, in other games I have played with elaborate house mechanics some folks spend many hours building decorating, to the point it is like a game in a game, which is great I think. Nothing is truly free so we will have to see how bad they bend us over the barrel.

One of the best housing economy I've seen is wildstar. They really made it so you have a really good basic start to housing and the rest of the fluff you can get from both store and ingame.

I hope they follow that model since wildstar did an awesome job with their store and housing systems.
