So, TESO-RP is dead. Anyone know why?

I'm betting it's because their events were getting trolled by people turning up and having duels in the middle of them. It might not be, though. It might be something entirely more innocuous. Anyone know why it's gone? Is ESO losing its RP community?

Frankly, after One Tamriel, I was dreading this would happen.

Yes, it may seem that way. No online game in history had the level of RP participation this one had during its first year.

Here's a video summary of that first year....amazing.....

But RP is not dead. Here are some screen shots taken just this past Thursday during the weekly sermon held by Servants of the Tribunal at Muth Gaar in Deshaan.

RP continued afterward too after the sermon let out....

Yes, OT does present challenges to some of the DM style events using what had been low level dungeons and quest areas as their settings.

Dueling hasn't really harmed matters. Plus you can work around it by instancing your RP to other players.

I am totally convinced that RP is not dead at all in ESO. Why would it be? Dueling changed a lot, brought some part of PVP to PVE areas, but why not? While I am against dueling in banks and similar small buildings and while I know that excessive dueling in small area may contribute to lagging, but also we should be able to do anything in the game, so why not?


The world has changed a lot with 1T, but RP is still alive and always will be, until people are willing to adapt to the changes and new things and until they keep loving this game.

I kinda RP and the duels are just fine, I always picture drunken brawls, duels over honor, someone scuffed some khajiit's skooma bottle.

My dunmer is more focused on the dwemer and the great wheel, he gets the feeling mortals are the play things of Aedra/Daedra and they to the true Gods such as Sithis. He sees the mortals playing with their "magicka" and "souls" which he figures are the true aedric forms of mortals, yet he realizes their very being is to transcend the Daedra, though only those such as Talos have achieved such transcendence.

He chuckles over the Orcs squabble over which god is their god, though he is the same being. Why wouldn't such ridiculous manifestations of conflict be merely contained to such philosophical arenas? Of course the mortals will engage in hostilities anywhere - including a bank.

Maybe it's because I'm on console, but I've never seen anyone rp in this game, and I've been playing since console launch.

Both consoles have RP communities; if you check TESO-RP you can find several RP guilds for both systems.
Now, as to why you don’t see spontaneous role-playing is just a matter of the overall community and how they react. As I have come to realize with experience, is that the PC community is far more accepting of role-playing, whereas on the consoles, it seems that when spontaneous role-playing occurs it is takes an aspect as though that of a chum bucket for immediately it attracts toxic responses from the community.

Yet that is not to say that role-playing isn't occuring. If it is something you desire to witness get in contact with those role-playing guilds and get immersed.

This is good advice, @AuldWolf. My guild has about 200 members and 62 of them are RPing most of their online time. Unless you are near our hubs however, it's really unlikely for you to find any of them about. I think RP guilds have just matured their techniques and narratives so you won't really catch them in lorebreaking locations/situations too often anymore.

True. Of course for ERP the reasons are a bit obvious but I've encountered all manner of RP in suitable locations for the lore the group is based in yet away from the crowd so they can do it in peace.

Just keep those chat bubbles turned on and look for blue text above player's heads.

RPvE and commonplace RP have benefitted greatly from dueling, from what I've seen. There were duels going on in stros and I typed "cheers the duelists" in emote. Five seconds later a fight and a 10 minute RP discussion. What was more amazing was the others starting to RP as well. I may be condescending when I say it, but they seemed new and it was great to see people join in and give a fun aspect of the game aspect try.
