I am hoping somebody can help me understand the pros and cons of these two in comparison to one another. I have always dawnbreaker on my stam sorc, but I seem to see more and more talk about rend.
So, two questions really. What are the differences between the two generally, and if my specific context is the final stage of vMA which would be more useful?
Thanks.

    Personally, i use rend on my dual wield bar for boss fights and Dawnbreaker of smiting on my bow bar for minibosses and trash mobs if i need it. The stun on DBoS is really nice on the mobs that CAN be stunned

    Rend is great for Boss fight, for the damage and heal. DBos great for Mob Pulls for extra damage buff and knock down.
    As @Bandit1215 says, rend on dual wield bar, DBoS on your back bar with bow, if you cancel with weapon swap, it benefits from your damage bonus on Dual Wield!

    Rend all day. Tool tip 62k on stam sorc with 39k stam and 4.2k damage. Put that on a boss with Bloodthirst and you're pretty much invincible.

    DB is obsolete now imo. Good for trash but nothing a steel tornado doesn't kill.

    In terms of the last boss on vma. The crem guard usually spawns on top of him. Hit both with rend and that's 142k tool tip damage in my books and a minimum of a 70k heal over 16s.
    PC Master Race

    1001CP
    8 Flawless Toons, all Classes.
    Master Angler
    Dro-M'artha Destroyer (at last)
    Tamriel Hero
    Grand Overlord
    Every Skyshard
    Down With BOP!

    Wow, I had no idea. Thanks for this info.

    The people who design the game do a great job of making things that are useful in specific situations;

    Dawnbreaker;

    Still a great ultimate, cheap, bug burst AOE followed by a nice DOT, and can either add roughly 8% damage or a stun.

    DW Ultimate;

    Really nice DOT damage with a subustantial heal, with morphs that either double the time or increase all your damage up to 30%.

    All are useful depending on content and challenges but the one thing so few people talk about is Thrive in Chaos, it is amazing in any boss fight where adds are summoned (which is quite a few) is just devastating.

    Point to remember about the DW ulti; it's reflectable so be careful in application against Grobel or any boss with a reflect mechanic.

    How can an AoE DoT be reflectable? It goes against the definition of an AoE DoT. Thrive in Chaos could be okay without vMA weapons, but with the vMA DW Rend is just way stronger.
