Unable to update silver/gold main line quests out of order...?

(Attempted) Doing quests with husband today. His EP alt is still finishing up in Eastmarch; my DC alt's been finishing up in AD (Silver; backtracking after having finished the main line). My alt has not started on Gold yet, and though I've been able to do most of the quests in EP (Eastmarch), the main line (Gold) ones will not allow me to get any updates at all. Go anywhere, play anywhere seems to come with a few flaws :/

    *sigh* no update option here.. Okay, and another thing xD We do not have many quest slots as it is, and to be cut off on a nested quest line is just BS. Get to drop this now, aaaand guess what? Do all the stupid £$£%^&! running around all over again when i get back here. Awesome job. Just awesome.

    Check the Cadwell Almanach tab in your quest, achievement and leaderboard menu. It should have a drop down list where you can see which quest objective for what zone is already completed. Sure you can do them out of sequence, but in some zones doing one quest leads to another. The subsequent one may not be available if the one before has not yet been completed. So there are a few constraints.

    I've been in game since beta, and am fully aware of the Silver/Gold restraints. After completeing all the quest lines and Silver and Gold on my main, multiple alts have gotten to the *Golden Gates* via main line only (saving all other zone quests for backtracking).

    Now, here is my current issue: This is supposed to be open world now...? I would not normally be galavanting off to do quests in Eastmarch when I've not done Stonefalls, because I KNOW BETTER. I was off with my husbands alt assuming since the world was open that it would not be an issue. Now imagine if I were new to the game? I would not know why the quest was not updating, only that it wasn't. I would think the game was flawed... and, it is kinda' isn't it?

    Open world my backside. Poor implementation more like it. On top of this, with such limited quests slots, I have to drop this bloody nested quest line and DO IT ALL OVER again when it will work properly. Bad, bad design ZoS. WTAF?

    the main story quests have required levels
    make sure you're above the req and you should be able to progress
    i believe it's every 10 levels (might be every 5)
