I don't know that a gatekeeper would be right for this one. The Gatekeeper is great for something like TSW, but I'm just not sure he would do much for ESO.

For those who may not be aware, the Gatekeeper is an NPC (in the form of a large naked man made of golden honey) in TSW that you have to beat in order to be able to enter the hard mode dungeons. It's a test you do solo that measures both your gear and ability to fulfill the task you wish to perform. Passing it means you have the ability to complete a hard mode dungeon. Note, not the elitist "must have all BiS and do fifty quadrillion DPS and finish the whole dungeon in 3.2 seconds" complete. Just the basic ability to get to and kill the final boss of the dungeon.

If you're a tank, you take the tanking test and have to hold aggro and hit interrupts at the right times for however long it is while avoiding the stuff that will kill you and managing adds. If you're DPS you've got to do a certain threshold of damage while avoiding all the stuff that will kill you, purging his buffs and managing adds. If you're healer then you gotta keep the little naked green men alive, cleanse debuffs, and avoid the stuff that will kill you.

The problem with this is, if I go in with a guild group, and one of the group is weaker than the rest, but the group doesn't mind, that weaker toon won't be allowed in. Which is a shame. I was carried quite a bit by a couple of storming guildies for my first several pledges until I realised I needed to do something about my play style and equipment. I'm grateful to the guildies for carrying me. And will try to carry others in similar circumstances because of their example.

On the other hand...when it comes to pugging.....well that's a whole different bucket of crit rush and overload spam.

Maybe if you want to use the group finder for a vet instance you need to pass a test, like kill a 900k hp mammoth in a minute or something. Though that wouldn't stop the problem of passing the test but being sent to a group who are already assembled and nowhere near capable of doing the content.

I personally think it shouldnt be possible to queue for veteran versions of dungeons without at least finishing them on normal. I cant imagine the struggles of someone who, for example, randomly got something like vCradle as one of their first dungeons... :D
And imo those limitations should only apply to group tool, so people who are leveling undaunted on alts with guildies wont have to do all those normal dungeons.
