Hi guys, i'm fairly new to this. I'm a level 21 Dark Elf and i am trying to figure out how to strengthen my character in terms of skills, armor and weapon sets. So far i've been using heavy armor and mostly items that i find during questing or exploring. I've just recently began to learn how to craft medium armor and enchant. I just feel like i need some advice to push me in the right direction. I've noticed people at level 10 that seem to be stronger than i am which has led me to believe i'm doing something terribly wrong lol

It would be very helpful to know your class and even more if you are stamina or magicka.

Oh, right! I am a Sorcerer. I use the Daedric Summoning and Storm Calling frequently. I have also been Dual Wielding. My Magicka and my Stamina are higher than my Health.

You're gonna more than likely wanna go either stam or mag. Decide which you prefer. Sorc pet builds are good magicka and you can go stam based.

Both are extremely different in both sets and playstyle. Do you prefer range or melee?

Pets are good for PvE and dueling, though in open world PvP they can struggle.

Stam sorcs are good both in PvE and PvP, though they too differ.

    So what do you like?

Hi there. First off, almost every skill in the game is made either a stamina skill OR a magicka skill, never both. As skills max their level out at Rank IV, you can morph them. Sometimes you can turn a Rank IV class skill (class skills always start as Magicka-based), into a Stamina Based skill. You can go to a lot of different websites that describe the skills by googling "eso class build calculators". Which I suggest. Because everything is split, either stam or mag, almost all players in ESO choose to focus on one or the other. Those players that do some mag and some stam usually don't end up with a successful character Although it can happen on occasion. Most people suggest that new players choose stam Or magicka. Honestly, once you get to your faction's capital there are shrines which you can pay gold at to reset your skill points or attributes so if you get bored with Stamina's skill base, buy an attribute reset and a class reset and you can learn new skills. It's cheaper than buying the third bag upgrade for $5,900 gold. So the price isn't bad. The catch here is you can't change your race without a race token which I think is over $25.00 US Dollars so if you pick a race like the High Elf that rocks magicka but has no Stamina pluses for Racial skills, and you switch from Magicka to Stam, you won't be as strong as someone with a Stam based race like Redguard. It's all good though and resetting skills and attributes to try the "other" side can be a breath of fresh air.

Right now you are using your Class skills (daedric and storm calling) which are magicka based (to begin with). Both have at least one morph (like Hurricane in Storm Calling) that makes your magicka class skill into a stam skill. You are also using Dual Wield...that is stam based.

The reason people concentrate on one, not both, is that the higher your magicka attribute, the more damage or healing that your magicka based skills do; the higher your stamina attribute, the more damage your stamina based skills do. Also weapons are split between magicka and stamina: staves (destruction and restoration) do more damage the higher your magicka attribute skill; all other weapons do more damage the higher your stamina attribute is. That's why you will see most magic users using a staff and not a two hander or a bow. Dual Wield is a little different. All of it's skills and 99% of it's passives are all stamina based, but the very last passive (twin blade and blunt) gives +5% damage to ALL of your damage and healing as long as you are using two Swords... nothing but swords. Sometimes that 5% bonus outweighs using Staff skills instead. That means though that you will be using only magicka based abilities, no weapon skills. There are Plenty of magicka based skills though to choose from so no biggy there.

As to armor, most people would say if you are magicka based wear 5 light armor pieces, 1 heavy and 1 medium. If you are stamina based wear 5 medium, 1 heavy and 1 light. The reason is two fold: The Undaunted Skill line which you can get in a pub at your first major city, has a passive that increases your max health by 1% for each "type" of armor you wear. All three types means +3% max health. The other is that by wearing at least one of each, you are always levelling all of the armor skill lines. That way you can always change up your armor if you want to. Using mostly Light armors will make that skill line (which gives huge boosts for magicka users) grow faster...same thing for medium armor skill line (which focuses on stamina) if you use mostly medium armor.

Once you choose which you want to be, stam or magicka... you will start to really soar.

There is a key crafting mechanic called Traits. I Highly, Highly suggest going to elderscrollsonline.wiki.fextralife.com/Traits and looking it up. Deltiasgaming.com use to have a great guide but it has been taken down since there is another author that is going to update them there. If you are going to want some of the best gear in the game, you have Got to learn traits to 9th level (in some cases) (or have a friend who can make them for you) and that literally takes months if not over a year to get everything to rank 9. I should know, I am almost maxed on a lot but I still have a ways to go.

    Good luck!

Sempiternalsoul, if you are NA server based, I am on either early or late EST. Send me an in game mail at @beodawn and say who you are (the forum name can be different from your "@ name in the game. It's a good thing, not a scam but I prefer not to go shouting it lol. And let me know your level and whether you choose to go primarily stam or magicka. You don't need to go all one or the other, i just need to know what you mostly" use. I will be in game in about an hour but if you send me in an in game mail message we won't need to meet up. ps. you won't be sending or giving me anything lol.

See in Skyrim I did both Melee (Dual Wielding) and range w/spells so I'm so used to having multiple high skills, so this is super new to me and I'm still trying to get used to the mechanics. I feel feel like I'd prefer range in a way but I also like jumping in at the time and attacking multiple enemies at the same time and it's so hard to choose between.

So my new question is: Is it possible to be a Dual Wielder that can excel at Magic? I'm scared to see the answer lol

I believe though I will take the path of raising my Magicka since that is more important to me than Stamina.
