Just recently returned to the game and started fresh with a new character. Went through the first area and was wondering if I should hold off on doing Coldharbour/main story stuff and DLCs until end game to get better loot when I finally get around to doing them.

✭✭Well, story wise it makes sense to do the base game quests untill you complete coldharbour before entering dlcs.
Regarding loot I don't think it matters much. There might be a few quest rewards that are useful at max level, but unless you already know which gear setup you will be using for endgame, I wouldn't choose questing locations based on loot.1 -

✭✭Avoid craglorn till max level, even with the changes there are still things with massive teeth in there
Other than that just follow the tales, find what you love doing and get stuck in
