I've decided to rework my Templar. What is now the best trait for a restoration staff? Additionally, when using dual swords for spell damage which would be the best trait. Thanks!

i say defending, as a true meta healer will be wearing 7 light, the extra 10% mitigation is nothing to sneeze at. powered is really not needed, precise or nirnhoned is a better option, as you will be dpsing at least some of the time, with at least shards and as the shards damage is calculated on the bar you have out, even if you toss one out on your back bar and switch your front resto, the dps from the shards will go up. sharpened might sound better but it does nothing for the heals you have going.

i don't know if i would call the difference between powered or precise is quite small, on average you get double the amount of healing increase from powered (3.5% vs 7%). i am using the following thread as evdiance https://forums.elderscrollsonline.com/en/discussion/262295/nirnhoned-precise-and-sharpened/p1, in that it explains that an extra 7% crit is "This translates to an increase in average ability tooltip by 3.5%", this aplys to healing as well. and this comment goes into more detail - https://forums.elderscrollsonline.com/en/discussion/comment/2916971/#Comment_2916971

Powered if you find your heals aren't strong enough. I usually do it with my DK healer as I lack the burst heals of Templars and Sorc or the HoTs of NB.

Precise or Nirnhoned are overall good options as well as they help grant you more DPS and still help give stronger heals.

Sharpened is not overly useful if you are just healing but for anything that heals based on damage (Funnel) it does make a noticeable difference.

Decisive isn't great, it's honestly just slightly above Charged or Infused, but getting more Warhorn uptime isn't exactly a terrible thing to have either but it is unreliable.

Defending is so so. More survivability is great but just be prepared to be slightly less effective than a healer with Precise/Nirnhoned/Powered. That extra survivability is useless if you can't keep others alive after all is said and done.

For pvp defending, assuming it's your back bar...

very true...Defending is the best trait for PvP for buff bars (bar where you don't do your damage on)...5k resistance is awesome - you can either be very tanky or negate resistance debuff that enemies can put on you...Even if you have some DoTs on your buff bar, as soon as you switch to your Sharpened dps bar they will benefit from that Sharpened trait...

Precise for resto staffs because more crit heals are more than an 8% increase and damage you do from an ability like nova or veil will be better effected too. Sharpened on anything for damage. One of a dual wielders weapons being precise is acceptable and is even better in some situations such as trials or vMA axe and dagger builds.

I pick decisive, since you dont need the 7% extra healing or the 7%crit chance you usually have more than enough healing, but being able to get 30% more ultimate make u get Warhorn or Nova that much faster for you party to boost their damage or keep them alive depending on the situation

I'm currently sitting at around 7-8 traits with all my staves/staffs and you know which trait other than nirn for obvious reasons, I've found the most difficult to obtain? Training.

I just found a destro one yesterday for the first time and still need an ice and shock training staff, then i will have completed those traits. I'll wait until my research is coming to an end before purchasing those 2 staffs. I've had every other trait coming out of my ears during that time (again other than nirn).

For healing trials I do a powered resto on front bar and a defending destro on my back bar. In vDSA and dungeons I tend to go towards precise front bar since I will be contributing to dps and healing.

I never dual wield on my healer these days. Eledrain is very important. On my magplar dps I run a destro + duel wield.

What does your back bar look like? Mine is extended ritual, orbs, radiant glory, purifying light, shards. I suppose in a trial setting I could get rid of glory but the other ones are too good to replace.
    Infused Master's Resto.

This is the right answer but hard to get, I feel lucky that I got a defending one.

This is factually wrong, the extra 7% healing is, on average, that is to say on a long enough timeline, more then the 7% more crits you get with precise. See my previous post on the details. Though are correct in the rest of your post.

Not at all. In 7/7 light you're squishy as ***. In dot heavy fights like vmol 1st boss and Ozara etc you need to be able to stay alive for more than 2 hits.

    This +1

I go defending as well since I'm wearing pajamas and have most attributes in magicka. Otherwise I prefer precise for higher crit heals.

I actually took that morph while leveling my Templar, but now I'm reconsidering it. For group content power of the light that applies minor breach and fracture to the target, which will of course will stack with the major breach and fracture from the tank's pierce armor. The stamina cost is not that high even for a magicka build with ~9.5-10K stamina.

    It's situational.

For raids where everyone's learning or vet dungeons you'd be best off with infused with magicka return glyph or powered.

For raids where people know the mechanics and there's no massive burst to out-heal, I'd go precise.

For raids like vMOL or vMOL HM, I'd go powered to get out every last bit of healing since in 7/7 light and with your CP allocation, your crit chance would be below 50%.

You can go decisive to get some extra ultimate, but usually in raids you'd have 2 healers, 2 tanks running warhorn and either another DPS if you wanted higher up time, or another templar dps to use nova or a nightblade to use veil for the same effect.

@Lightspeedflashb14_ESO my backbar is usually- orbs, ele drain, shards, rune focus and my flex spot. [Radiant aura/repetance or purifying light or ritual]

[Front bar - BoL, healing springs, inner light, combat prayer, flex spot- purge for maw. Always purge. ]

I really implore players to use rune focus to boost their resistances. It's OP.

This might be true if you compare the traits in a clean testing environment with no other buffs and influences. But in a realistic scenario powered will be only ~4.5%. This is due to how the powered trait stacks with cp, major mending and other healing buffs.
And precise adds more than 3.5% if you keep in mind that your crit healing modifier will on average be around 190%.
Additionally you have to take a closer look at the fight as having higher hps isn't always the best choice, especially in fights where you have damage spikes and not sustained incomming damage.
A bol crit will always heal your target to full hp, no matter what trait you use. And a non crit bol will not heal your target to full hp, even with a powered weapon. So in those fights you'll benefit more from a precise weapon than from a powered one.

I don't know how so many builds for healers don't include that. I find it essential for vet hard mode dungeons both for protection and sustain. I never take it out of my bar.
