Do you care if other people cheat in PvE?

Yesterday I posted about some people cheating and I found some of the replies to be quite unexpected. One or two were along the lines of "this isn't good". Some replies were along the lines of "meh". Then the majority of them were along the lines of there must be something wrong with me, the person reporting it.

This poll option may be over-stating things somewhat, but I definitely oppose cheating/exploiting in the game regardless of whether it's PVE or PVP, and if I encounter it I make sure to report it and in cases where I can I'll interfere with it. Nuking bots by pulling netches onto them was a lot of fun back in the day.

Cheating is wrong and I am opposed to it but don't really see any point in doing anything about it myself

I wonder, is animation canceling caused additional lag. Maybe I just just peeved at the whole mage's fury execute lag. But I wonder, is all of the animation canceling is adding up and causing the server to lag as well?

I think this option was slightly dramatic, but it was closest to how I feel about cheating in game.

I'm with @UrQuan with this but answered Other to make a point beyond this specific game.

Cheating, no matter where it takes place and in what game it takes place, drives people away from online games like nothing else.

People will not stay in your game world if they feel it's not fair. It's the most corrosive of all player behaviors.

I look for cheats and exploits all the time and report it. I do try to be tolerant of some "cheese" methods in certain dungeons & on certain fights, but still bug report things that make boss fights seem too easy.

The reason? Anything that makes a fight too easy means devs will make it harder at some point, maybe even exceedingly harder. They could also nerf a piece of gear because it's flooded the game and everyone uses it. Finally, if it's something like a speed hack is being used in a trial to pump out more DPS then that means I'll be lower on the score board and I will have to deal with new DPS challenges when the average DPS curve is raised due to the cheating.

While it may not affect me directly and immediately, cheating affects me in the way this game is built & designed. I don't want that destroying my fun because someone want to run an easy vMA trial.

PvE content is just a hassle holding people back. Any means people use to get through it is ok with me.

i like to mind my own business, and stay out of problems by not getting involved with other peoples personal choices.
not only that it is a good thing but also that i was raised to do this as well and i am very glad of this way of life.
i wish more people minded thier own business about other people as well, because thier would be 90% less war and fighting if they did as i do.

Meh whatever. I don't care if people cheat in PvE

If it doesn't directly affect me then I mind my business...just like in real life.
(unless of course a kid is in danger or something serious but that's not a risk in game)

I usually take the time to report cheaters when it is blatant. Not sure though what you described in the other thread was cheating? Somebody could have just pointed their character in the right direction then set a small weight on the key for the bow attack. It is lazy, but not sure it falls under the rules as actual cheating.

In the situation you described dragging a mob over to them should have ended things.

Cheating is cheating whether it's pvp or pve. I'm not sure why some people think that makes a difference if there is someone else on the other side of the screen.

Also your poll options are a bit extreme.

If I have no doubt it's a bot I'll report it. But I'm not making it my personal vendetta.

Problem I see is this, if you can't even level your own character then what can you do without a program? Am I to believe these are all PvP people that simply want to skip PvE? What about the gold part then, will you bot to earn items to sell to other players?

Single player games I'd say go for it if this is what you like.

Edit: To clarify, nothing against people who PvP - just tried to think of some justification.

I voted Other because I think you left out the most obvious option.

This game - like most - has rules. By playing the game we all agree to play by those rules. When someone doesn't we should report them and ZO should take appropriate action.

Am I personally bothered by people cheating? Do I cry or lose sleep over it? No. I report it and get on with things.

In the case of gaming I think cheaters are generally dealt with appropriately. Rampant cheating doesn't sit well with most players, who don't cheat, and unhappy players are more likely to up and leave. There's rarely any potential benefit for a company to ignore cheating.

I know one game which had a really tiny playerbase where the devs were extremely lax with enforcing their TOS. They were so desperate not to lose any players. The result was the community going completely toxic and that predictably drove away many new players.

ZOS doesn't enforce rules equitably, so you can't expect people to follow any rules.

I report inappropriate names, anyone using exploits to their advantage, and any behavior that can be considered cheating.

"Minding your own business" is fine and all. But when others are trying to gain an unfair advantage, it discourages other players to stay and new players to come in. It'd effectively kill a game if left unchecked.

If someone cheats in PvE and gets a stronger character from it, doesn't that carry over into PvP? They can have better gear and more CP than they would otherwise have. Plus, those of us grinding to get the best we can might feel cheated by others going the cheat route.

Exploits are cheating if they give you the upper hand, and 99.99...% of the time, they do. Either way, both should not be willingly done.

If cheating is ignored and turned into mechanics instead *cough*animationcanceling*cough* then it becomes a new part of the game everyone has to learn and the devs need to keep in mind when designing. It's part of why, while I am able to animation cancel, I refuse to. I don't like doing it, it's annoying to me.

Don't confuse my vote. I don't like ppl who cheat and report it often but ZOS literally does little to nothing now and there are always exceptions but clearly there are no rules.

Ppl game the systems and ZOS does nothing and then when there becomes a trend they'll ban ppl for a few days....and then they're back.

Some accounts I'm sure have been permanent but in our points of view, it looks like nothing is being done.
Now a lot of cheating is called L2P like sitting on ledges for boss fights or trees and what not while one runs around and others dps. Or ppl gaming others and steal guild loot and money or even worse. Grinding spots up until One Tamriel.

U have end game cheating and while it's on a server no one questions some of the stuff completed

And...

Just go look at the PvP topics. I don't even go down that path but it's pretty silly with all the legitimate complaints and what's often ignored and then they say we can't discuss disciplinary actions on the forums....BUT it's just fine via in game text chat and even sharing and discussing exploits.

I care about pve cheating when it starts to affect other players. Competitive pve is a real thing even though it's not my thing.

Yeah, our competitive PVE base has gotten a lot of accusations of cheating.

But as someone who's had the chance to play with a few of the players in that tier, they make mistakes just as much as normal players, and they've had to put in work to get where they are today. It's possible that a few cheaters sneak their way there, but most of them at the top are legitimate players for sure.
