Help me with DPS

I wanna know if when someone says "ya I got 30k dps" is this AOE included or single target? I can get like 20k AOE right now but my single target is at its peak a 8k. The character is a work in progress, but if people are getting 30k on one target in a second, I might just uninstall cus I'm bad. Thanks.

Hey bud.
First, it would depend on all your gear, your stats, your champion point number, where you actually allocated those champion points and then finally what class you are.
Second, dude, it's a game. This game proud itself on being so free with the class system, job system, point system and so forth that I'll be the first in a long line of players that will tell you to just ENJOY and PLAY the game. Don't worry about how much dps until you're ready for trials and THEN, tweak your build for max dps. Until then, don't uninstall, bro. SO MANY wonderous things to experience in this game. It's not just about how fast you can kill stuff.

Most people stating their DPS are referring to single target parses. 30k seems to be the standard for self buffed DPS looking to get into a Veteran raids.

In regular and vet 4 mans I have only seen a few people achieve this number and rarely had 2 of them at the same time in group. I started playing a DPS when I was CP 400ish, I finally broke away from Tanking and started a DPS toon the most I have ever been able to attain is 25-27K ( dont have VMA weps or gear like VO).

One of the things that really helped me get better was downloading an addon called combat metrics. It shows total group DPS and your percentage of that. When I started I would see me as a DPS getting 20-30% of the total and I would talk to people about was to improve. I was able to get my percentage up quite a bit with gold weapons alone. I will never be the very best but for me the fun is in trying to be one of the best.

Most people are willing to help if you ask them in group/guild chat. Don't be discouraged, it will get better. You will learn how to use DoT's and Buffs and as long as you just don't spam one or 2 abilities you will be fine.

DPS is just a very hard role and it really shows in some group events. If everyone lives the healer is seen as a good healer, the boss stays on the tank nobody will complain about the tank (even though they both can do a lot more then just heal and tank but some choose not to.). If the boss takes longer then expected everyone targets the dps.

I used to struggle to get 20k, now I am disappointed if I get 26k. It will come to you with more CP, refining your rotation, and tweaking your gear and build a bit as you play.

As others have said, the DPS you do depends on a lot of factors. And also, there are a lot of people that play this game for 2.5 years now, so those people have a lot of experience and practice with their characters. So, don't be discouraged, because people have had more time praticing their character.

The people usually make claims about their single target DPS and 30k is definitely doable. Depending on the situation, some may even reach 40k or 50k DPS (buffed by healer/tank, raid group, burst DPS).
Anyway, that should not discourage you to become better yourself. Nowadays I am doing pretty fine with my magicka DK, but a long time ago I was kicked out of my first veteran dungeon group, because I was doing so bad.

If people are doing more DPS than you, ask them, or try to get advice on the forums, but don't be discouraged. We all started somewhen

Thanks for the information and encouragement guys Ill just keep playing and tweak things as time goes by and hopefully it works out. ive already increased my single target dps to 10-12k and aoe to 30-40k.

Sometimes you have to take people's claims with a grain of salt but hang in there , best thing I found to increase dps a decent amount was making weapons legendary

Plus you do more damage if you are alive.... Hitting with 30k and not being able to stay in combat is useless. Consistently hitting with 10 to 15k damage over a long period is worth more.
