Question about cp related to dps

Im currently cp 250 something. And my dps is pure garbage. So my question is, is this game going to magically allow me to do more dps when im higher cp? just because of the fact im higher level, so I will hurt the monsters more?

Could I have the same build at cp250 and do crap dps and the same build at 561 and all of a sudden my dps will be better?

The reason I ask is because, I've asked before and gotten the response "cp has alot to do with it" multiple times

Im a mag sorc and already have a 21% dmg boost from elemental expert, and as far as I can tell the only way I can weave is with light attacks/force shock and when I do that its actually reducing my dps by about 2k, so im stuck in around the 11-13k dps range and not seeing it get any better

Your DPS will definetly improve with higher CP numbers (there are CP stars that literally read "deal more dmg with X").
However, that increase will probably be nowhere as impactful as you might think. The most DPS comes from the gear and the skills you use, with CP becomming less and less relevant the more you alread have.

CP is a multiplier, if your base DPS is bad with low CPs, it'll still be bad with more CPs, just slightly less so.

There are many different factors affecting your DPS:
    • Gear, including sets, quality, traits
    • CP count and its distribution
    • Group buffs, including Warhorn, Spell Power Cure, Powerful Assault...
    • Abilities used and rotation
    • Weaving
    • Mundus
    • Food (usually max HP / Stam for stamina and max HP / Magicka for magicka)
    • Race

You'll have to work on as many points as possible if you really want to improve your numbers. No secret CP passive "super OP DPS" to grab I'm afraid. :p

It's not clear what gear or rotation you are using but I once calculated ability metric for a Breton magicka sorcerer as a function of CP. A summary table is shown below. This was assuming 5 TBS, 3 Willpower and 3 Julianos.

So you are around 240 CP (115563 ability metric) and if you reached the current CP cap, 561 CP, you would expect a DPS increase of ~19% (metric for 270 CP is 137604). Since most good max CP players will get around 30k DPS for a single target, I would expect you get around 25k ish, maybe a bit lower on longer fights due to sustain issues.

It sounds like your problem is with getting a good rotation going. If you are on PC, learn to examine your DPS parse if you aren't sure how to do that post one here and I'll try to give pointers.

Edit: The gear used for the calculation is not optimal. It was just something I thought was easy to get at the time to allow easy comparison and avoids the impact of CP on proc gear sets.

Ever CP increases health stamin magicka.
    Health makes you live linger.
stamina magicka let you pump out more hits before you run dry.
stamina magicka is a direct part of the damage calculation.

On top of that...you also unlock loads of auto and manual scaled buffs with more CP.
All of which not only make you more deadly, but also make you harder to kill and increase your lifespan.
You get a triple whammy.....not just a dps boost.

I main a mag sorc and since 1T have been putting out alot more Dps.

something that is of great benifit is llambris 2pc monster set, paired with julianos, willpower jewellry and any yellow staff is still serving me very well.
remember on a sorc alot of your damage comes from ground based AoE (liquid lightning paired with wall of elements).
after applying them AoE`s go to work with the force pulse and weave, llambris will proc and everything melts :).

If you can`t get llambris its not the worlds end ;) just use the same rotation remember to keep both them AoE`s down.

CP does make a small difference but a decent 250cp player with a rotation will always out dps a bad 561cp.
People can disagree with me but this I have witnessed in PUGs myself.
