PVP Maelstrom?

It got me thinking. Wouldn't it be cool if there was kind of a PVP version of Maelstrom Arena?

What I'm thinking of is a multi-round arena where you queue for a match with a random other player.

Have the same number of arenas as MSA, and maybe have each arena be similar to the different ones in MSA (I don't think identical would work though) so that there are environmental things you have to pay attention to in addition to having to pay attention to your opponent. You start off in arena 1 and have to win 4 or 5 matches (not necessarily in a row, and each match would be to a different random player from the pool of players queuing in that arena - you could potentially end up fighting the same player more than once) to progress to the next arena. If you leave the arena (whether you log off or not) and come back later, you'd come back to the same arena with the same progress unless you decided to abandon the arena quest and start from scratch.

When you win your final match to progress to the next arena you get to open a chest with rewards in it, just like the MSA chests (but probably using PVP-oriented gear sets instead of the sets you see in MSA chests). When you win the final match required to complete the final arena, you get a Maelstrom weapon, and a title. I guess it could be a different weapon with different stats from a Maelstrom weapon, but then you might still have PVPers who prefer the Maelstrom ones and feel like they need to complete the hardest solo PVE content to get the weapons they want. On the flip side you might end up with PVEers deciding they like the weapon you can get from the PVP arena better, and feeling like they needed to do PVP to get the weapons they want. In order to avoid that and give both PVEers and PVPers an opportunity to get the weapons by playing the type of play that interests them, I think it would be better to have Maelstrom weapons be the reward.

There could also be weekly leaderboards and rewards just like there are for MSA now. Also it should be possible to challenge a particular player to fight in the arena, but if you're doing that you wouldn't be eligible to get a Maelstrom weapon or appear on the leaderboards - instead the rewards would be effectively the same as if you were doing non-vet MSA (different gear sets, but the same concept in terms of the level of rewards that you get). This would (hopefully) prevent people from abusing the system to get crazy good gear with no real effort or skill.

What do you guys think? Good idea or bad?

Oh and for the record for anyone who doesn't know, I'm a died-in-the-wool PVEer. I barely ever do any PVP. I just think this would be cool for PVPers.

    Good idea. But will be dominated by tremor scale knights errant and viper gimp / apex predators.

    With very strict rules such as no monster sets, no IC tel var sets then yes. You know keep it fair and not one sided or at worst...just have permafights that never end until someone lags out or wife switches the machine off.

    On one hand it'd be really awesome for PVPers to be able to obtain vMA weapons by doing PVP in the arena. On the other, you wouldn't have a chance if you wear medium armor. It would be full of turtle builds with high proc damage. Pretty much like dueling.

    It would be to difficult to setup. It would require a tourneyment design for starters. Otherwise who would be the opponents in the next arena. It would not be a realistic challenge to have it be the same ones you just defeated.

    Only with instance PvP areans and a leaderboard with rewards coming from the leaderboard could something work.

    Just make a whole new set of Arena weapons for this. Make them Emperor Weapons, such as these:

    The Emperor's Inferno/Ice/Lightning Staff:

    Enchantment: Force Shock abilities deal an additional 3000 Flame/Ice/Shock Damage, and an extra 10000 Flame/Ice/Shock damage over 3 seconds, stacking up to 3 times. Adds 189 Spell Damage.

    The Emperor's Greatsword:

    Enchantment: Uppercut abilities deal an extra 4000 Physical Damage, and applies Minor Fracture to the affected target, reducing their Armor by 1280. Adds 189 Weapon Damage.

    The Emperor's Dagger:

    Enchantment: Whirlwind abilities deal an extra 15000 damage over 5 seconds to all effected enemies. This can stack up to 2 times. Adds 189 Weapon Damage.

    So on and so forth. Of course, I just made this all up, so it'd have to be ironed out to avoid broken OPness.

    Award them to those who make the leaderboards, and include a chest after each round for the winners of that round to each get a shot at a weapon.

    I thought proc sets were dominating PVP rite now. Why even go for VMSA type weapons most are obviously PVE geared. 2hander is all I would use. Then it would take a proc set slot
