Magicka Sorcerer for vMSA - Advices?

Hello All,

With the Orsinium Anniversary, i will be getting back to vMSA, and could use some quick advice on making an Overload build.

Gear (DW / Destro)

5 x Elegance
2 x Molag Kena
5 x ?

What would you recommend for second full set, to be on body (active on both bars). ?

And what Weapon Passives apply. I have heard that DW Swords does not apply the 5% bonus. Does daggers still get the Crit Bonus then?

What buffs Overload? I know that Spell Pen, Spell Crit and the Damage (Elemental + Magic etc) will benefit the Overlad. But what about the Light attack damage increases? Or something else ?

Julianos or Tbs.

With elegant weapons it doesn't matter for the overload part. So long as sharp they all do the same damage.

CP dump it all into Ele expert and crit, hello 44k overloads.

Current best in slot is:

x2 Iiambris
x5 Mother's Sorrow
x5 Julianos

The higher crit chance with Morrow's Sorrow produces higher crit damage then the 20% from Elegant does.

Llambris provides additional DPS, as soon as it procs move onto next target because Llambris will finish the job.

I prefer 5 elegant clothing, 2x kena, torugs dual wield, 3x aether jewelry

In answer to your other questions, Swords do still add 5% to damage. and daggers only impact Wep Crit (so only.passive that does anything for Magika users is the last one, on Swords.

Set wise I like Clever Alchemist, bit of health and some pokey SD boosts. Otherwise TBS for sure.

Healing of Power/Crit surge and lots of AOE I find is key and made earlier rounds easier for me.

But I'm vMSA noob. Yet to take on round 9, DrxHarbinger is a good one to listen to

seriously, if not elegance, then just do julianos and choose either ilambris, kena, or infernal guardian.

I make the leaderboards most weeks (not in the top 50 granted...), and just do elegance with kena, tougs swords, and now switched to willpower jewelry instead of aether.

so kena + elegance if you wanna dual wield and two-shot the crematorial guards with overload

kena + julianos for reliable dps

scathing mage + infernal guardian for when you want to ward and shoot a mortar that procs your armor so you can weave and frag harder which procs your armor set then you ward cuz its been six seconds which procs a mortar and they die which procs your armor set so you can open the chest of champions with 512 extra spell power.

ilambris if you want to make it rain

or be like me and get 11/15 so many times that you put on lich and infernal guardian so you can infinitely ward and weave your way to a flawless victory with destro resto. slow and steady and regen and sigils and low score and soo-to-be-flawlesssssssssss

srsly though, you dont need the extra crit from julianos.

do 5x elegant, 3x willpower, and 2x kena, then overload on your sharpened, gold, dw torugs bar and the bosses just melt.

just slot inner light on your overload bar and use the thief stone, no problems.

USE A HAKKEIJO (sp?) ENCHANTMENT ON YOUR DESTRO STAFF! prismatic onslaught is the answer to not having a maelstrom weapon.

I use 5 aether 5 elegance and a sharpened vma lightning staff and all I need is blockade,liquid lightning and my left mouse button. Infinite sustain and shield.

I think people need to start getting out of the overload mentality to be honest.

You can run 5 elegant, 5 julianos and hit for 44k crits like mentioned above .

Or you can run 5 inflam, 5 julianos and generally destroy everything.
I personally have never been able to RUSH bosses using overload even when doing the one trick pony build.

But the inflam and julianos is a monster.

Also, as far as helms are concerned everyone should still be using valk skoria - just saying.

^skoria will save your life if you are go D about keeping your power surge and boundless storm on. Add liquid and wall of elements, destro ulti, and the adds regrets warming you reeeaaaallllyyy quickly.

...and its good to practice not over warding since its a dos loss. I found I survived better and (obviously) killed faster when not double slotting hward. Trust your HoTs, DoTs, and pots

Illambris will out dps Skoria most of the time. I understand that Scotia with a guaranteed hit everytime but the dps increase is just too much for illambris.

if you have dual back bar, you can run elegant on your overload and still get the benefit from a monster set, illambris is so good.

Bound aegis and inner light on all 3 bars then;

Bar 1: force pulse, wall of elements and frags
Bar 2: liquid lightening, power surge and hardened ward
Overload bar same as bar 2.

Getting out of overload mentality for vma is to gimp yourself, honestly. Overload is just too good for both burning bosses and recovering magicka. The elegant 5 piece is beneficial to your weaves as well as your overload. I've tried 5 julianos with 5 spinners, and I tried 5 elegant with 5 spinners and I get consistently better scores with the elegant setup. Yes 47k overload crits are just for bosses but my medium weaves destroy everything else. vMA staff with WoE and elegant and my minimum charge medium attacks are hitting for 11-14k every weave. My scores are improving as I learn to die less. My best so far is 540k with 5 deaths and 4 sigils in 52mins. I believe this setup would get me 550-560k with no deaths. I honestly don't know how to get 590k, I imagine either minor slayer or stam sorc, but I'm willing to learn.

I'm running 5 tbs, 2 illambris, 3 Moondancer with maelstrom inferno backbar and random inferno front bar with spell damage enchant. All magicka and spell damage enchants. My last run was just over 53 minutes and a score of 534k. While I respect the elegant crowd I never was able to get that kind of performance out of that build

Being primarily an mNB in game I did not use overload on my sorc when completing (I just haven't gotten the timing down so suck at it). I would not recommend doing what I did. It was not a good way to go, especially on the last boss. Overloading the final, gold ghosts, phase of that fight would have been the way to go.

For bars I basically 1 barred it with long duration buffs on the back bar.
Bront:
curse, wall, crushing, frags, and hardened ward. My ulti was meteor.
Back:
Back bar had liquid lightning to put on spawn locations, execute (don't remember what it is called), impulse (honestly, you should put hardened ward here), crit surge, and whatever the magic version of hurricane is. Meteor was ulti here as well

I do actually think one barring your non buff skills it is a good way to go for learning as there is less to mess up. In hindsight, I would defiantly recommend an overload build. I would recommend for the overload bar to have liquid lightning, hardened ward, and the magic hurricane thing for major expedition.

I had 5x Julianos, 5x infal, 1x kenna. This was fine. All good buffs, no proc sets that are unreliable or apply effects that, with no tank, everything will just run out of. I would say 5x Julianos, 5x elegant, 1x kenna would be even better. Avoid llambris. It is great on a sorc, just not in vMA. Stuff won't stay in the ground dot.

Thank you all for the advices. I went in today, and tried the first three rounds. Boy there is s difference from back when it launched, and i was at CP100 (CP500 now).

I went with 5xElegance, 3xWillpower, 2xKena, 2xRandom for max magicka. I am doing this to avoid golding out more swords. Have the willpower swords golded.

I was hitting 40k crit overload, and did 26k DPS on first boss. He did not even get time to summon in his first split again

I'm a noob, still CP 260, but looking to start some vet dungeons and vMA.
Having 5x elegant, 5x julianos and 2x gold torug pact swords, do you guys think it would be possible to beat vMA? Or maybe I should get more CP?

I made it to Stage 7, back in the day, when i had 100CP, no Kena and no Elegance. And i am quite sure i would have beaten it, if i had the save option back then. So yes, if you have the personal skill, it is very possible to beat at CP260 i think.
