Weapon enchants not firing when using damage-inflicting class skills ?

Good Day Everyone,

I switched my build from Stamina to Magicka for my heavy armor DK and am currently running dual wield (offense bar), S+B (buff and heal bar). I could have sworn before the recent maintenance when I use a class skill on my Magicka DK that inflicts damage, enchants on weapons would trigger. I started noticing today that this was no longer the case.

For example: DK skill 'Deep Breaths' no longer triggered my weapon enchant as it used to. I even tried changing enchants a few times (to a different kind) and the charges remained full after two hours of continuous gameplay in PVE and PVP. I checked my combat log repeatedly to see that the weapon enchants did not fire upon repeated use of ANY damage-inflicting class skills.

The enchants would only trigger if I performed light or heavy melee attacks and not when I use my class skills. This is unfortunate as I don't weave melee attacks (or use any weapon skills from DW / S+B) on my Magicka DK. If this is indeed an intended change, then it clearly puts Magicka melee wielders at a disadvantage compared to Stamina melee wielders as IMO, Magicka melee wielders do not use as many weapon skills from the 2H, S+B and Dual Wield lines, nor do they weave in melee attacks as much.

I tested using a fire and lightning staff and the enchants triggered normally upon normal light / heavy attacks. If this is indeed a recent change or an intended mechanic, then I'd be missing out on the second five piece set bonus too (typically I run 5 pc SET A + 5 pc SET B + Monster helm and shoulders). Its disappointing, as I golded out three complete heavy armor sets using close to 90 tempering alloys, not to mention other top tier mats and significant coin.

Can someone confirm if this is a bug or if I am mistaken in my observation?

    I think it's a bug that got fixed.

He overestimated his resistance to the hopelessness of Oblivion, about to give up, and looked up to see the golden glow of atherius surrounding a beautiful young woman who extended her hand to him and said "I can help you". He carried Fianna Kingsley out of Cold Harbor on his shoulder. He carried Alvard Stower under one arm. He also irritated the Prophet who had intended the portal for only Mol and Lyris.

    I thought weapon enchants only fired off use of the actual weapon such as weapon damaging skills and basic attacks.

    Think about it, with a rStaff and a fire enchant on it, how would it proc if using only heals.

    Did you weave when you were a stamina build? I believe light/heavy attacks proc weapon enchants, not class skills. So if you were weaving while doing Deep Breath in the past, it was the weaving doing the enchant proccing, not the class skills. On my Stamplar, Biting Jabs (stamina-based class skill) alone never procs weapon enchants. I have to weave to get the enchant proc. Sometimes when doing testing I specifically use Biting Jabs only and do not weave so I know my results will not be skewed by weapon/spell damage enchant proccing. It usually evens out in a long fight, but in a short fight, whether my weapon damage enchant procs first versus my poison damage enchant, that +348 weapon damage can make Biting Jabs look stronger than it really is.

    I don't think class skills have ever procced weapon enchants.

    except for physical/spell damage weapon enchants, they're only triggered by light and heavy attacks, attacks from weapon skill line don't trigger them.

    I know at least some of the Weapon Abilities use the Main Hand enchant. My main procs it all the time with Flying Blade.

    Thanks for the feedback and info. Can summarize that enchants on melee weapons fire from use of melee attacks and melee weapon skills, NOT from class skills. This benefits Stamina classes who naturally use melee weapon skills as part of their rotation all the time, not Magicka.

    I'll adapt my build and playstyle accordingly. I'm determined to make a competitive PVP build using Heavy Armor Magicka DK.

    Based on my first hand experience, HA Stam DK clearly surpasses HA Magicka DK in terms of survivability, sustain and damage output (especially 1v1 scenarios). With proc sets (Viper, Veli, Tremorscale) it compunded the strengths of Stam DK significantly.

    For those wondering why I changed from a clearly superior class / build to one that is weaker and more difficult to play, Magicka DK is more fun (for me anyway).

    Gotta agree. A magicka DK is just more fun (for me too).

    I don't mind not being perfectly optimized... heck as a player I'm not optimized.
