That's because it's a set specifically designed for brand new players, and as such it only drops in training (aside from jewelry, obviously). This is by design. The only way to get pieces in different traits is as quest rewards for various quests on the starter islands.

If you want other traits, then do the quests on the Starter Islands, they drop this gear in other traits

Apparently it does drop in other traits outside of quests. One of my guild mates pulled a sharpened lighting staff from a chest. But that is a really, really rare drop rate for non training traits on Armor of the Trainee.

Exactly. When you get them as quest rewards they can have different traits. When you get them as overland drops they are all training.

If that happened it would be a bug, as it was confirmed by ZOS during the PTS testing of One Tamriel that it's only intended to drop in training.

    Meanwhile,
The rest of the gear sets in pretty much the entire game can drop with training still too. Why was this NOT abolished from the game ZoS. WHY!?!?

So what if you've already done the starter island quests? Shite out of luck, eh? Guess I need to level a new character up to 50 so I can then do the quests and get the CP 160 gear.

The set is intended for new characters......

However, your right, you need to skip the starter islands and level a character to 50 if you want to farm this for champ levels.

    That would be me.

I had several hundred treasure maps stashed away for 1T and i opened another several hundred zone chests.
The drop rate for Trainee without Training from zone chests and treasure map chests is very low but it does happen.

Walk me through this. It's only intended for new characters but it drops in CP160. Maybe you mean its intended for new accounts?

It has other than training if from a quest. And it's not OP by any stretch of the imagination. I don't get it.

Using 3 jewlery, I can live with 2 out of 7 of my traits being utter [SNIP].

Edit: I bought all my from guild traders, you don't have to farm it.

Alright. Once upon a time the zones were divided, by alliance but also by level. New characters leaving Cold Harbour could go/were sent to an island with enemies in their level range. Gear was scattered across zones of a certain level, after which some would no longer drop.

Then ZOS removed level and alliance restrictions and divided/created drop sets for the three weight classes into each of the 17 zones, dungeons, trials, and the DLC. They turned quest rewards into the sets of their zone, and scaled everything so gear would always drop at your level.

But for new characters, and yes new players, they wanted the starter islands to retain some draw. So they gave it gear with a triat to help leveling and stats that would compensate for a lack of CP. They kept triats of the previous quest rewards, which now also drop as this set. And it drops at CP160 because that's just how scaling works now.

Wow, Does no one else remember when the Training sets used to drop random traits like every other set does?

Infact when they first introduced the set I went and started a new char just for that set and to see how different a beginning play-though was, and upon completing the starter area, I seem to remember I actually got 1 training set with the training trait, and the rest was random crap.

I was surprised to learn that now it only drops in training, or has a very low RNG for other traits. Whats with the hate? For what may be a legitimate question?
As a casual player I was satisfied that at one point I had a char max level and near max crafting with almost all motifs and I pretty much lost interest. Then ESO discovered DLC's and now my main is just a wanabe and I am happily pulled back into the game.

Trainee was the hot new kid on the block before it was nerfed. Everyone farmed the jewelry and the quests for the named non training drops. Then it dawned on ZOS that the set bonuses were just too strong for a set intended for beginners of the game and cut the 5 pc in half. Before it was giving 2500 stamina and Magicka as 5 pc. That was more than any other set in the game gave. Now you can just go with Shacklebreaker (crafted set introduced with Morrowind). It's way better than trainee.
