You could run either with a few tweaks, play around and find a combo you like.

Race: Altmer, Breton, Dunmer or Argonian
    Mundus: Thief
    Attrubutes: 64 Mag

Gear: 2Kena, 5 Julianos or Scathing, 3 Willpower or Aether, Destro Staff and 2 Torug Swords

Front bar, Destro: Blockade, Refreshing Path, Swallow Soul, Degeneration, Inner Light and Soul Harvest

Back bar, Swords: Siphoning Attacks, Merciless, Harness Magicka, Impale, Inner Light, Meteor

What I'm using atm. Haven't had a chance to try out Grothdarr yet, hear it's the best set for vMSA, except for Stage 7

Im having success lately with 5x julianos (heavy chest, medium greaves) 2 piece valyria skoria and 3 piece willpower jewellery. I tried elegant, infailable aether and TBS with kena, but I find this easiest for me.

I use destruction - inner light, unstable wall elements, merciless resolve, stuctured entropy and my spam is swallow soul. I find the new destruction ultimate a boss killer.

on resto I use healing ward, siphoning attacks, refreshing path, impale and harness magicka. Bolstering darkness as last resort but never used it.

This gets me through all stages comfortably. Im not yet good enough to change to the dual destruction staff setup. I still rely on shields and heal when in trouble.

I use sharpened inferno with crusher enchant. Took me ages to do it first time, now it gets easier and easier.

edit - all points into magicka and I end up with 41k magic and 21k health and 15k stam - trifood

I've been loving my ice furnace hybrid build. The stacking AOE damage with staff skills just murders fast.

Being Imperial I'm slightly disadvantaged on my magblade, but also running some of the current BiS so it balances it out.

Current setup is 5xTBS, 3xMoondancer jewelry, 2xGrothdarr and vMA inferno on each bar. Grothdarr is extremely good even on stage 7 since most mobs come to you and if not then you can go to them.

If you weren't able to access a lot of these, then you could run with 5xJulianos, 3xWillpower jewelry, 3xTorugs on head, shoulder and staves with an weapon/spell damage enchant on your front bar. Alternatively, 3xInfallible Aether jewelry would give a boost over Willpower and can be farmed in purple.

If you're familiar with the mechanics of vMA then you can get away with dual destro staff and applying dampen magicka on your back back for times like stage 4 boss, stage 5, stage 6 boss, stage 7 and stage 8 rounds 3 and 4. Otherwise I'd recommend resto staff for healing ward just to be on the safe side.

Also, although it's broken for weaving and a huge pain, using funnel health along with refreshing path solves all your healing problems including the crematorial guards in stage 9 providing you put your dots down, shield up and then funnel health. Most people fail at points like that because they naturally choke trying to heal themselves instead of counterintuitively using that healing to dps the adds.

I'd also suggest, if you're uncertain, using blur/mirage/double-take as it can help you survive better during tough fights like stage 5 or stage 7 round 3/4 otherwise use that slot for your rearming trap and the extra 12% boost to crit damage.

I also have been having a lot of fun using 5 Julionos(v14 blue chest), 3 willpower (healthy), and 2 Skoria impen on my breton mag NB vamp.

A very basic *** setup with a few blue armor but mostly v16 purple gear... Unbuffed my spell damage stealthed is 2900 and my mag regen is 1200 with 29K mag. Just a quick thing I threw together but it works for me when my CP is spec'ed the right way. I am using mostly light gear since my Undaunted is only 3.5.

I imagine it would be even more fun in gold v 16 gear!

I don't think the solo build on the deltia's link is as good as the group pve build. You don't need a restoration staff or wards if you're playing a magicka nightblade as you're constantly healing yourself through damage.

    Something like:
Bar 1, destro staff: inner light, elemental blockade, crippling grasp, swallow soul, merciless resolve, and shooting star

Bar 2, dual wield: inner light, siphoning attacks, refreshing path, sap essence, impale, and veil of blades/soul harvest

    5 TBS/Julianos, 3 willpower/aether, 2 kena, 1 maelstrom destro (or setless if you don't have access to one)/2 torugs

It might not be the best possible setup but you could easily pull ~540k with it.

The reason Grothdarr is no good on round 7 has nothing to do with the mobs coming to you. Its that if it procs under the shield during the boss round, you are dead.
