Power vs Energy overload - bonus damage?!

The game says Energy overload returns magicka but less bonus damage. However, it does not say how much is that "bonus damage", because both morphs state "each attack deals 3% additional damage".

So how much exactly is that bonus damage for Power overload?

I thought it was bonus damage and range to heavy attack only. I could be wrong though, been ages since I chose the morph. Never bothered to check how much damage cos I never planned to heavy attack.

It goes up to 6% plus the heavy attack range.

Power overload goes up to 6% once it reaches lev IV?
So Energy overload stays at 3% and probably magicka return goes higher on lev IV?

Am I correct?

Just read the tooltip online and it is pretty confusing; they both say 3% more damage. One morph goves bonus range and radius to heavy attack, the other morph returns magicka and does "less bonus damage". None the wiser.

Yes, that's confused me too... I was morphing this ability and for months I've been using Power overload. However I don't ever use heavy attacks so, magicka return would be more useful. However, if Power overload reaches 6% as an lev IV and Energy stays at 3% that explains why Power is overall stronger.

Technically speaking the 3% is roughly 1050 (based on 35k overloads, non crits and non tbs are much lower) damage.... in the grand scheme of things that's pretty low..I prefer the magika back. Burn up to full magika and switch off and back to staff attacks. Plus now use infernal guardian. It'll crit for 32k total and it'll keep your shields topped up to actively use offensively. 32k every 6s is stupidly powerful.

I THINK the Energy Overload tooltip is bugged. It isn't increasing the damage of any attacks (and its not meant to be increasing them anyway), it simply restores magicka. So technically Power Overload does 6% more damage than Energy Overload. Its something to consider when running Elegance. But its really only viable in pledges. In vMA and in PvP the mana return is such a blessing.

However, they should have specified more clearly that Power Overload has a 3% that increases up to 6% at lev IV, while Energy Overload stays at 3%.

I think I might try Energy Overload this time...
