I'm looking at this horse right now... and wondering... why isn't their an option to steal it?

It would be nice to do that and have it disappear when your dismount like in the other games. You get a ride but you don't get to keep it in collections.

Because you can't ride horses like in Oblivion or Skyrim. In those games, riding a horse enabled your character object to get on another independent mobile object. In ESO, mounts are part of your character object, not separate objects in their own right.

There could be ways to make it work, though. For example, activating the horse could despawn the horse object and immediately apply the respective mount model to your character. As soon as you dismounted, whether intentionally or due to entering water or being attacked, it would probably be lost.

This is the answer as everything in this world is shared. If that horse was steal-able, the game would have to respawn it instantly or within n a few seconds/minutes all day. Every thing that ppl want like this takes server resources and possibly would increase the system requirements to play.

Generally speaking, it's because it's a server game where all players are on the same server(S) collectively interacting with everything.

That doesn't prevent us from killing NPCs.

elementary. because all the stealable horses have been taken! you have to camp at the stablemaster to wait until they respawn to catch one of them. make sure you run to the dye shop to recolor the horse after you steal one.

And, yet, somehow those chests and strongboxes behind shopkeepers can only be opened by the first player to come across them.

I was just thinking the other day that one thing missing from ESO crime is stealing horses and being able to use them, even if just until they despawn from dismount.

I was wondering the same thing the other day! Before I realized I had mounts, I tried to steal one and was sad haha I was fully expecting to be able too

    A. This is not skyrim.
    B. I'm pretty sure ZOS (which is a business) makes good money selling mounts via the CS. Next question

I see no reason they don't allow this, just as long as you get a 43k gold bounty for doing it.

I actually really like this idea. It would make it feel just a little bit more like one of the single player titles which is after all what they have been going for lately.

I don't see the point in being able to since all you have to do is press H to mount your own horse.

That's a solution I could certainly roll with.
Just so that everyone knows, my Altmer still can't have black hair. About a dozen of Altmer NPCs in the game have black hair. Just saying.

    Meet my characters:
    Command: Do the thing.

Zadarri, Khajiit Fist of Thalmor: The thing was done, as commanded.
Durza gra-Maghul, Orc blacksmith: The thing was done perfectly, in the most efficient way.
Tegwen, Bosmer troublemaker: You can't prove I didn't do the thing.
Sings-Many-Songs, Argonian fisher: Sure, I'll do the thing... Eventually. Maybe.
Aerindel, Altmer stormcaller: After extensive research, I've come to the conclusion that doing the thing would be a waste of resources.
Liliel, Dunmer pyromancer: Aerindel said I shouldn't do the thing. Something about "resources".
Gyda Snowcaller, Nord cryomancer: I will find a way to do it that won't waste resources and make Aerindel proud of me.
Beatrice Leoriane, Breton vampire: I persuaded someone else into doing the thing. You are welcome, dear.
Sahima, Redguard performer: Doing the thing sounds awfully unpleasant and really not my problem.
Ellaria Valerius, Imperial priestess: I'll pray to the Eight for the thing to be done, if it is Their will.

I agree that it isn't necessary but it would be neat to have the option to do it. And i feel like it wouldn't affect crown store sales because the ones they sell on the crown store are cooler looking than just an average horse.
