Infinite duel: magSorc vs Defensive Stance DK

I have been dueling a lot the last few days on my magSorc toon. I can basically win a duel against every class except for DK's that are using the Defensive Stance skill (this skill reflects all magicka abilities).

Yesterday I was dueling one of my guildmates who has such a DK and we literally dueled for 15-20 minutes. Because of the defensive stance he uses I get little to no chance to deal damage, but he could not kill me either because I have my wards. I basically used my back bar healing staff with heavy attacks to get back magicka all the time and have endless wards. So with us using ward and defensive stance against eachother we had an infinite duel where no resources ever ran out on both of us. Eventually I left the dueling area after 15 minutes because we knew it could go on for hours.

Has anyone else had the same experience? Is there a way I am missing for a magSorc to win this duel?

mDK wings are a hard-counter to pure caster builds.

The best way around it is to focus your burst on skills that can't be reflected - Curse + Soul Strike can be quite effective, but it's going to be down to timing and a bit of luck.

I had this wonderful experience like a week ago, at the end the stamDK just got bored and went full offensive, and I finally was able to nuke him down.

@Panth141 Ah I did not know that Velocious Curse doesn't get reflected by Defensive Stance! I will use that knowledge to my advantage next time I duel him

I was duelling a typical "sets proccing to save me from death" tank the other day that couldn't actually get me (Mag DK) below 50% health for about 20 minutes the other day before 2 of his guildies came and helped him kill me...

I should have used my execute... oh, wait.

The lightning staff is also not reflected. You can experiment with Rune Cage followed by Liquid Lightning & Wall of elements.
Streak can be also useful.

Overload bar, curse, LL. Keep them moving. One overload every 4s amd burn his magika down. Unless he's got 3k recovery which is unlikely as he'll never kill you you'll win.

Or...get a procd frag ready, wait for wings to go up count to 3 and drop negate and burst as quick as you can.

Another skill no one uses. Daedric tomb. If someone parks up with wings just spam those they go off instantly and there is no defense. They root as well. Each mine does about 5k damage in pvp.

By the way, OP he wasn't using Defensive Stance, he was using Dragonscales. Class ability.

Endless Fury goes through wings, curse also goes through wings. So what I do on my mag sorc, I play defensive with shields and mines for a while, doing those resto heavy attacks and keeping curse up 24/7. When you have an ultimate up (depends DBoS, Meteor, Soul Assault or Negate), watch for the wings to go off, count to 3 drop the ulti:
- if you use DBoS: He's CC'd so you can frag him and execute. You curse will go off because you always keep it up.
- if you use Meteor: He's going to be blocking, so if you have slotted Rune Prison apply that, if you don't have it, Streak through him, turn around and frag him.
- if you use Soul Assault: CC him and just use this thing. Should be over if you placed a Curse and a Fury on him.
- if you use Negate: CC him and burst.

Remember they can only deal damage in close range. So dance inside your Mines and wait for him to hit 1. They hit pretty hard so you can place your burst here.

Defensive Stance is a stamina based skill. Makes the player look like they are in plastic wrap.

Reflective Scales (aka wings) is a magicka based skill. It unfurls giant wings that flap at you. It's more effective against sorcs, but has a high magicka cost and most stam DKs can't keep them up 100%

It's not clear if you were fighting a stam DK or a mag DK; either one can be built pretty tanky. There's a lot of advice here for fighting mDKs but you might want to verify that was the class you were against.

You used to be able to burst them down with curse, lightning staff heavy attacks, soul strike/atro, but healing is just insane now so it's harder than ever. Especially if the stam dk is in heavy armor, which for the majority, they will be.

You're going too slow. Stance only reflects one spell so send a barrage over to him and he won't be able to outcast you. Also use daedric tomb on him, just spam it over and over.

Yeah stance isn't maintainable unless that is the only thing you are doing
