Templar Help Please

Hi Folks,

So I decided to come back to ESO for a bit and see how things go. I've tried it out in the past but never stuck around for long. I created a templar, and my thinking was a plate-wearing magika class with a 1h & shield (DPS + Survivability). However, I'm starting to wonder how well that works. I'm only level 17 right now, and have put most of my skill points into Dawn's Wrath and Draedic Spear, with one in the Restoration tree for a self heal.

However, I'm starting to question whether this direction is viable. So, I'd like some basic advice around the following:

- Armor: Is heavy armor a good choice for Templar?
- Weapon: I've had some suggestions to change to a staff vs 1h+shield, and then I've also read to dual wield w/swords. What is optimal in this regard?
- Skill points: My hotbar has 3 ranged, 1 melee, and 1 heal. I've only put a few skill points into passives for the 1h + shield, but if a different weapon would be ideal, should I use more weapon abilities vs. class abilities?
- Attribute points - So far, most has been put in Magicka, with a few in health, and 1 or 2 in stamina. I've read some older guides that say put them all in Magicka. Am I screwed now?

Any basic help around these areas would be most appreciated. I'm not worried about min/maxing, but I want to be sufficient, especially when in dungeons with a party.

Thank you!

    Thank you!

1st you are not screwed about any choice you have made. Go to your alliances capital and you will find a place where you can reset your attributes and skills/morphs for gold.

strength of your skills scale off the size of your resource pool aswell as your spell/weapon damage. it is in general agreed upon to put all your attribute points into the area you want to be strong in. Usually dependant on what race you chose. Some races are better for magicka while others are better suited for stamina. For a magplar go all in on magicka. For a stamplar go all in on stamina. Tanks are a bit tricky because you want alot of health but you also need resources, that is a slider that you are gonna have to figure out on your own.

It sounds like you want to be a magplar. I found that wearing 5 heavy armor 1 light (belt) 1 medium (glove) works very well. Some more offensive minded templars go 5 light, 1 heavy (chest) and 1 medium (helm or shoulders). I find that, that is more for experienced and talented players though. If health is an issue you can enchant your armor to get your health up with health enchants.

For magplars you want to stick with magicka skills because your characters strengths are magicka. it is ok to slot sword and shield for the defensive passives but I would not advise using any of the stamina skills.

Typically magplars go duel Wield (swords) for their offensive bar and restoration staff for their utility bar. But you could go destro staff on your offensive bar and sword and board on your defensive utility bar. Really just depends on how you want to play.

As far as skills go templars have alot of directions you can go with the class skills. I would suggest slotting a few offensive skills on your attack bar but also slot some utility skills too. Translation don't slot 6 attack spells bcz you will usually only wind up using 3 of them and your missing out on skills that strengthen your attacks.

Soo for my templar I slot
    Offensive bar
Punturing sweeps, radiant magelight, ritual of retribution, structured entropy, focused charge and ice comet ultimate.

    Reasoning

Punturing sweeps is my go to move. Hits hard and heals. Can work single target or work on trash mobs.

Radiant magelight increases my magicka pool by 2% and increases my crit strike by 2000 just by slotting it. Since I use sweeps I am almost guaranteed to have a crit strike 1 time in my channeled attack. Also slotting a mages guild ability passively increases my magicka pool and regen by 2% for slotting a mages guild ability.

Ritual of retribution heals over time, damages enemies over time and gives access to sacred ground passive. It synergies really well with sweeps to strengthen the heals.

Structured entropy is another mages guild ability so I get another passive boost just for slotting. The skill itself empowers my spell damage for 20seconds and passively slotting it increases my health by 8%.

Focused charge is the gap closer I slot bcz it scales off magicka and helps me get close to enemies so I can use my sweeps.

Ice comet is another mages guild ability so I get passives for slotting it plus it hits single target or groups really hard.

    Back bar
    Finisher radiant destruction
Repentance bcz passive regen to all stats and free resources from corpses.
Rushed ceremony morph (group BoL solo honor the dead)
Blazing spear is a great support skill,a great aoe attack, and a great crowd control ability.
Free slot depending on role. Could go channeled focus, mutagen, Dark flare, aedric spear, or a resto staff support skill depending on the group I am with.
