Vet Maelstrom Arena

x_Demogorgon_x
So I have a magicka Templar. I breezed through normal Maelstrom in about 30 minutes. Tried veteran, and I get stomped. Especially the ice level. Any tips? As for builds, skills, sets, whatever? Trying to get Title. Appreciate the help!

Start on the island with the Speed Sigil and hit the boss until 90%, that's when 2 adds (1 melee and 1 archer) will show up. Kill them first then resume your fight with the boss. At 75%, the boss will smash the platform you're on: be sure to get off before that happens and go the the right island. Use the Speed Sigil if you have too

Take out the Ice Nereid first, then attack the boss again. Few more adds will spawn at 65%, again take those out first before continuing with the boss. At 50%, she smashes the 2nd island, so move to the last one (it has the Defense and Power Sigils)

Now it's a DPS race: grab both sigils and nuke the boss as fast as you can. Try to take the Nereid out with any AoEs you have while burning down the boss.

Make sure to look out for any trolls while you're doing all of this.

PS: a MagPlar friend of mine who attempted this told me that Total Dark was an immense help here on this stage. Dunno much about Templars tho, but give it a try and see if it works

In my experience, knowledge of the arena is just as, if not more important than stats. Knowing the spawns, timing and type of mobs that appear and how to best approach taking them out while keeping control of the current level mechanic can turn an impossible feat into a relatively quick farming run.

You can get by with raw damage, but I'd recommend getting to know the arena a bit more before you attempt that.

The non-vet may as well be a quest in one of the starting islands by comparison.
My ping is higher than your resource recovery...

This is good advice. I might suggest starting on the island with the healing sigil instead of the speed sigil though. The idea is that after the first island is gone, you could be low on resources and the speed sigil speeds up both your movement and resource recovery. You'll get more use out of that sigil mid-fight than at the beginning.

Be sure you don't do to much damage to fast. You will get swamped of you do. This is the only round that punishes you for to much dps to fast

Sorry if you're after Boss strat this is what I've told everyone what to do.

Start on the sigil of healing I found most templars stuggle with the first 2 adds ranger and upper cut pain in the ass.
POP healing sigil when adds spawn kill adds get the ranger on the healing platform by taking 2 steps off in the other direction and melt face.

Next haste platform - adds spawn from the OTHER whole side of the arena so you have time to apply caltrops, dots etc while they make there way over.

Push boss last platform - when adds spawn grab the defensive sigil the adds will klill themselves (i laugh every time) the dog will need to be dealt with with the same as the bashing orge but shouldn't have issues.

Grab the power sigil and finish boss off.

If I am going for an easy clear, I like to start round 3 and 4 of stage 5 by camping on the north island with the shield and power sigils. The shield sigil is probably the most useful sigil in stage 5 because of all the ranged mobs. If you are getting stuck, grab this and just focus the melee mobs. By the time you are done, everything else should be dead.

For the boss, lots of good info above. When learning the boss, my advice is you dont try to over cook him. It actually makes sense to hold DPS at times. The relevant thresholds are 90, 60, 30% for spawning two adds, and 75%, 45% and 5% for breaking the islands. If the boss is nearing any of those thresholds, stop DPS and take out anything that is left on the screen. If you want to play it super safe, stop DPS and wait for a troll to spawn so you can make sure it doesn spawn in the middle of something as well. Once you are clear, push the boss passed the next threshold. The nerieds are ultimate worth. Make sure you kill them ASAP after he breaks an island or you will have a bad day. Eventually, you will be able to just straight burn this guy, but in the meantime, slow this fight way down.
