Question about Armor.

Trying to create a character and of course I am going through the different races and classes and male/female combos with the Champioin gear button on.

I am curious about a couple things though. I really like the way a High Elf Dragonknight looks in champion gear.
Are these Champion gear looks just for reference and I can make an Orc that can eventually wear the armor I am seeing on a high elf Dragoknight?
I hope that makes sense.

And on that same note, what the heck are Crown Crafting Motifs? Do they allow you to make a whole new set of items that look like the style listed? Or do they just take items you make and make them look like that style. A transmog if you will.

You mean Altmer? Most of the styles change with the type of material you use as you level up. There are a couple of sites that you can go to and see pics of each style at different tiers. http://eso-styles.faerylands.eu/ is one and there is another called ESO Fashion.

Crown crafting motifs are just motifs that you can buy in the crown store. In all but one case so far (Grim Harlequin), you can find either the whole motif crafting book or individual chapters in the game. You can only make styles that you have learned from the motif books or pages though. You can't change things from one style to another.

'Champion Gear' has nothing to do with what gear you'll be using at end game.

Any race and use any style. Any class can use any style. Everything works. Some races are better for certain styles of play (redguard stamina -> medium armour, altmer magicka -> light armour) but you can make anything work just fine.

If you take a loot at the various motifs and materials you will see that armor and gear tends to get fancier as you gain in levels.

However, since you are just starting out, it is far more important to wear a mix of armors so that they all level up to 50 at about the same rate, and you get them to 50 before you get to Champ Ranks, or get too far into the Champ Ranks. So, wear a mix of 3 Heavy 2 Medium 2 Light, or some similar mix. This way you can change out armor later on and not have to grind. During leveling, armor used to be not so important so you could wear anything. Now, with One Tamriel, you may not have as much freedom, but you still want to wear a mix of armors until they are all leveled.

To be more specific:

When creating and having champ gear toggled to see that look, the Kajhit have a helm that is very distinctly that race. You guys are saying an orc can wear that helm?

Absolutely. It's the Khajiit style, you can craft or find helmets like those and wear them on any race

Well that changes things a lot.

The characters I created in beta and the free times were based on ignorance.

I created only high elfs because I liked their look the best.
Now I feel a lot more free in my choices of race.
