Leaving trash items in chests w/ fix

I have been noticing an increased trend of this evil process over the last few months, and even observed someone do this in Wrothgar the other day. I cleaned the chest out so it would respawn. Now, I hate to suggest adjusting game mechanics to accommodate the warped play style of every in-bread selfish *** doing this, but I suggest all chest and lock boxes be set to despawn within 60 seconds of opening. Then respawn per normal.

I'd like to see this on harvest nodes and thieves troves as well. Maybe a slightly longer timer, but they do need to despawn after a certain amount of time.

Chests and harvest nodes should explode if you don't harvest the whole nodes multiple times in a row.

I think dungeon chests and heavy sacks have a similar mechanic already, where once someone activates the thing there's a limited amount of time for everyone else to have a grab at it before it despawns. In any case, it'd certainly be nice.

Although I don't understand why people leave stuff to begin with. I make a respectable amount of bank just vendoring garbage items. And with the crafting bag, there's literally no reason to leave a Ta or bait around. But I guess some people must really be strapped for inventory space...

It is simply running out of inventory space that leads people to do what is easiest for them - leave stuff behind. They could really just take it all and destroy what they don't need, but that would take an extra 5-10 seconds of their precious time.

It is also possible that a decent portion of the player base does not know about this mechanic. I will admit to leaving crawlers and worms behind when farming for alchemy ingredients early in my game play (I did not do any fishing at all, so did not need them) and only cottoned on when I read a post on the forums.

Some cleanup mechanic like a timer, like the chests/heavy sacks in group delves, would be so easy to implement.

Another possible solution, allow destroying items in-place without closing the loot window. And another (not preferable, but it'd work) remove the Take command as possibility in the loot window for non-instanced containers, only allow Take All.

This is such a tiny issue compared to what else they have to deal with all over the game, I really hope they do nothing about it - not worth the time and risk of messing something up worse than it is (and yes, I auto-loot everything and always have a near empty inventory due to the crafting bag).

There's always someone who argues against *EVERYTHING*, no matter how inconsequential or even beneficial it is.

It may not be highest on the list, but I'd like to see a solution to this. With the One Tamriel traffic I've been seeing more and more of it. Maybe even leave the lids open on chests until they respawn (obviously that doesn't affect plants).

They should just set it so that looting single items is not an option. You take it all or you take nothing. Not enough space in inventory? Destroy something first.

I always take everything, and I'm often hurting for inventory space. But I just destroy what I don't want/need.

This is some of the most close minded BS that I have seen for a long time.. So because that this is not an issue to you, but to a lot of other people, you decide that it's not worthy of fixing AT ALL.. Not even the standard comment about other suff being fixed first, no you just straight up deny that this is worthy of a fix..

Yeah, people leaving undesirables in a chest doesn't bother me much at all, just move on to the next. Don't really understand why whenever the topic of Chest use comes up everyone cries out for more gameplay etiquette, yet in most other aspects no one cares about showing consideration for others cause online gaming is such a dog eat dog world.

Only struck this once. The soul gem was left in a chest. Chests should be auto looted once opened, no option but to take whats inside.

No, it is very open minded. I'm open minded enough to consider both the possible positive and negative effects of fixing it, and then to try and draw a rational conclusion about the most likely best course of action given the current state of the game. Instead, I'd claim that a "I don't like it so it must be fixed post haste" position is a more closed minded view. Also, I understand we have different opinions, but you aren't going to see me attack anyone over it (rational post expressing opinion and reasoning vs spewing "BS" and "closed minded").

as there is an in-game setting for auto-loot (that you can switch off) perhaps whenever you open a chest or harvest a node that setting is temporarily switched on and then after the action is set to off again

I'd especially like to see this with regular containers as well. The number of wardrobes and trunks where people just leave a single lock-pick is infuriating. Of course this problem isn't new with One Tamriel, people have always done it, so high time for a fix.

While I agree that it ruins the happiness of finding a treasure chest, trying to force an auto-loot option or requiring the player to take all items is just as warped and selfish as players leaving an item they don't want they aren't doing it to ruin your experience they just don't wish to take the item and don't put any more thought into then that.
A respawn timer would be a good fix but I'm not sure the problem has hit epidemic enough levels for them to do anything about it yet.

Quite annoying too when someone is ahead of me along my set path and I'm running into nodes still up, but that someone ahead of me keep leaving the non-so-favorable item or items. Arrghh!!
