New Keen Eye glow is harder to see

With all the other epic bugs in this release this is probably low on the queue, however it is annoying and worth a mention.

The whole purpose of investing skill points in Keen Eye is to be able to spot resources from a distance - however the new yellow tone of the glow makes it easy to miss in high grass or other foliage, also in areas where yellow blends with the background more like Wrothgar... or Rivenspire.... or Alik'r... or various others....

No-one had asked for this, no-one was complaining about the old glow... surely for once the 'if it isn't broken then don't fix it' principle could have been applied instead of screwing up something that was fine before?

I run a few routes where I know the nodes off by heart to do my harvesting - but there are places where even when I know the resource is there I can't see the new glow effect until I am close enough to have stumbled over it anyway.

    Just an FYI, as I noticed this change immediately, I then realized this isn't a new glow. They reverted to the original glow from launch. There was a patch that 'improved' the glow effect. Not sure why they reverted back to the original. Perhaps it was personal taste on the devs part. Or maybe they copied the wrong file when converting to T1. Who knows. :P

    That seems plausible given the number of really old bugs that seem to have come back with this latest botch up, it's like someone was using 18 month old base code and no-one thought to check.

    Funny thing about the runestones now - I can see them easier if they don't glow. So before I was thinking - does the keen eye skill is any good if I can spot the runestones anyway? And now I'm like - wow, this skill hides them from me.

    Thought it's just display bug, because of new patch, now I'm not sure, hopefully it wasn't intended. Same for other effects, they in general seem less visible than before.

    I also think the old effect of waves of magical energy was much better than actual which is like a straight green strip or something.

    I'm not having a problem seeing the keen eye animation, I'm having trouble seeing the actual mats lol. Half the time, a flowers just show up on my screen as a keen eye light.

    I actually like the new glow, and the past one. It is not that difficult to see them, but hey, if you keep having problems add this add on, no excuses on missing it hahaha

    On console, I can pick out the node at a longer distance than the keen eye flare activates. Typically the node renders and the surrounding vegetation fills in as you approach.

    I agree. Pre-1 Tamriel the effect was universally visible, cool looking, and "Elder-Scrollsy."

    The new one just looks like waves of stink being emitted by all crafting nodes.

    Well, I wasn't asking for a change to the glow from the passive or anything, but I find the One Tamriel glow (is it really the same as the original one? I don't remember what the glow looked like back in the day) easier to notice. I like it. Maybe that's just me.

    I like the old keen eye glow. The new one blends in with the surrounding vegetation making it more difficult to see.

    A guildmate who is color blind says it especially difficult since its surrounded by green in most cases.

    I would really like to see it changed back.

    Don't get used to it. @ZOS_GinaBruno already posted on the addons forum they are turning off the beta 3D pin feature soon until they can decide if/how they will allow it to work to avoid exploiting.

    We really just need to old effect back and ditch the new "waves of stink" effect.

    Hmm, I don't really see how it would be considered an exploit... I just don't like it because I hate things that look (to me) stupid and cartoony - like this, chat bubbles, scrolling combat text, etc.

    No harm, no. I just wouldn't get used to it or rely on it as any addon that uses the feature won't work after they disable it. So those 3D pins will be gone next patch.

    They may turn them back on eventually (I hope). As an addon author, I had some really cool ideas about things you could use them for...

    But no, you won't get in trouble/banned if that's what you mean.:)

    The preliminary 3D texture/3D label control APIs have been finalized. However, the decision was made to privatize these functions to prevent addons from trivializing some dungeon mechanics by drawing markers on the ground in 3D space. The privatization of these functions will occur with the second PTS patch. If you have questions or comments about this change, please reply to this thread.
    Do you mean this post? If so, they already decided to revert the change and allow addons to use the 3d system again as long as the player isn't inside a dungeon.
    Concerning the 3D API, we have heard your feedback and we're going to try to work on a ruleset that will allow you to use 3D textures and labels in certain situations.
    On the next PTS the 3D API functions will be public once more with the caveat that addon 3D controls will not render in SOLO, GROUP, or RAID instances.

    I can't help thinking though that something like this would be unintended use. It completely nullified the point of Keen Eye.

    There are a number of things that can be done but they are all workarounds to deal with what seems to be an essentially pointless and unhelpful bit of tinkering at ZOS.

    If I am having to make the game less visually appealing for it to function then I would classify that as a design issue.

    There has always been the critic of HarvestMap nullifying keen eye, even without the 3d markers. This thread for instance was posted only two weeks after ESO was released.
    I can see where you are coming from, given that 3d markers display the informations in an even more accessible way than pins on a compass or a minimap, but imo keen eye still has its use. Even though I use HarvestMap, I also have at least 1 point in all the keen eye passives (except for enchanting, the runes glow enough on their own).
    This is because the addon displays all locations where a ressource COULD be, it doesn't show where a ressource IS. Using keen eye gives a player more usefull informations than the addon, because below most of the addon's markers there won't be a ressource.
