I don't know what you did but switching audio sources on my PC no longer causes ESO to hang/crash.
If I went from onboard audio to Bluetooth headphones or the like the game would always, always crash... unless for some reason there was literally no audio coming from in-game which of course is extraordinarily rare, not least because the environment, your pet or background music is happening almost all the time.
