Dear ZOS: Thank you for dueling

I'm not dueler. I always enjoyed random 1v1 or small number match-ups in open world Cyro, but I've only ever done a few organized duels to test new builds. While I was happy to see dueling arrive, I was skeptical if I'd participate. But last night, 3 of the guilds I was in were running ad hoc dueling gatherings, so I took a break from grinding new sets.

We didn't have to worry about a zerg coming over the hill or people interrupting.
We got to duel PvP friends and learn more about their playstyle.
We got to fight "enemy" friends and guildies in a low-pressure environment, just for fun.
We got to be social and drew people from zone chat that we otherwise might never have met.
We got to duel randoms going by and help new chums with builds and skills.
We got to introduce people to PvP in a way that's more accessible and less confusing than porting into Cyrodiil and standing at the transitus posting "where's the action" in zone chat.

Bravo.

This addition definitely deserves a ton of thanks, it's probably the most asked for feature since pre-launch even. It really brings the game to life from a social aspect. The game needed this.

Dueling is stupid in every game online.

So just to placate a few peeps u add dueling

Now u have to deal with constant crap in zones.

Shove dueling where the sun don't shine

I'm curious, unless you're participating in the dueling, how does this change affect you in any way? Players don't have collision, they can't hurt you, rez is free after the duel, and your skills cannot effect a dueler, so you never have to worry about your heals or shields targeting them.

Literally, it's like they don't even exist - except for a few flashy effects every now and then.

You know dueling did not make people talk bad in zone chat . I was spit on by a roleplayer last night and called scum because I am AD and never said a word . Some of duelers are very respectful players .

You on the other hand complain about zone chat but decide to say nasty things here in the forums chat is very hypocritical behavior . Maybe you should act the way you expect others to act instead of like the people you are complaining about . Set an example instead of contributing to negativity .

Tried it only once, and loved it!! Personally, i'd love more instanced dueling grounds, and i think devs have them in the works (battlegrounds), so here's a huge thanks from me!

Watching friends duel is very entertaining - cheering and clapping at the end of each battle. I believe this is a whole different way to RP now

There's a lot of stuff I don't like in zone and chat. People talking politics and religion. 12 year olds trying to be witty and insult each other. Stumbling onto RP and ERP sessions. But this is what happens when you get lots of people together.

Don't like dueling? Don't participate. ZOS gave you a nice auto-decline option. If you don't like seeing other people actually doing stuff, maybe an MMO isn't for you.

@NBrookus the most interesting thing I've seen is people in really out of the way places who are clearly using dueling to parse game mechanics or test their theorycrafting, not actually trying to win a fight.
