Grand Soul Gems - Why Are They Still "Grand"?

Since there are no more level specific soul gems around post One Tamriel, I'm curious as to why grand soul gems still go by the same name and aren't simply called "soul gems"?

Necrelios✭✭✭✭✭Hmm... yeah, well I was thinking about it and I concluded that soul gems have never really followed the traditional elder scrolls methods anyways. Technically they should be black soul gems for capturing people, grand soul gems for capturing large creatures like mammoths, trolls or giants, and the lesser ones used for the little critters.
So overall, I think it works out a little better this way since you don't have to carry all those extra soul gems around clogging up your inventory.
