As per usual, this is pretty much a nerf thread. I expected it to be ridiculous, but I was curious, so I set up a duel with one of my ganker friends and wanted to see how much it would do from stealth.

And the answer is about 23k-25k INSTANTLY from stealth.

So before anyone asks, no I wasn't wearing impen for the test and MAYBE it would have saved me. Armor weight doesn't matter because 2h ignores it and no other trait would contribute to survival here, so if I'm not blocking/shielded/dodging when a ganker connects this thing, I'm dead. AND if the ganker hits a "soft" target like me he can have the entire ult cost refunded and do it again to the guy next to me. Imagine the back of a siege line. 2 gankers could clear a disgustingly large number of players before even getting noticed.

How to counter it: Probably radiant magelight and/or full impen... I suspect this will be mandatory for any magicka build that doesn't want to die instantly. Stam builds typically run a little higher health and impen because they can't really use shields. Before this ult, you could survive MOST ganks with good reaction times and only 23k health and then possibly come back and overcome the gank if you were really fast.

I guess I'm now forced to run full impen and 26k+ health or else I'm just a walking sack of free AP.

Lol i intended to make a vma run, oneshotting all the adds, thus keeping up stupid resistances the whole time.
Broken ult will be broken.
Max health+ magic regen food + nagic pots on stamblade, shadowy disguise, radiant magelight empower. Boom. Profit.
Then dw for bosses till they are in 2h ult range

Not able to check it out for another 2 weeks but I think the main issue people were talking about when it was on PTS was the 100% return of ultimate if you killed with it. Damage is damage and if you don't have enough defence to survive a big hit, then so be it.

At least if it is a one use ultimate like all others, the attacker might choose the person beside you and then you can take him down. It is a bit one sided if they can use the same ultimate again and again and again with no drop off in either damage or re-use time.

Running a magsorc in pvp with no impen and 23k health has been a fun and interesting challenge. And I think anyone who recognizes my name in Cyrodiil knows I can put up an reasonable fight and take a lot of punishment.

I've sort of put up with the stam burst meta up to this point.

easily chainable combos
multiple stackable proc sets
high base damage
high penetration
extra damage from stealth
etc

Then they stick this thing in live and it's just the final kick to the *** to me. The joke has been with proc sets, "light attack and dead," and now it's just "ULT dead"

I do not mean to complain per se. I just want to point that this is pretty objectively a *** thing to put in the game.

Not quite, unfortunately. You get through actual physical resist, but blocking and damage reduction both stop it, last I tested. Otherwise, yeah, it would be a fun niche skill.

Well that's the thing. Multiple hits that need to land. If a sorc is running defensive rune, it has a chance to actually stop it.

I figure the Bow Ultimate is a good counter to this, IF you survive the initial Gank. Rumor has it the Bow Ultimate just melts the target easily down to Execute range.

Well that's the thing. Multiple hits that need to land. If a sorc is running defensive rune, it has a chance to actually stop it.

not multiple, if its buffed up with empower each ability ive listed is capable of doing well over 23k

you dont need that move that guarantees a crit as a ganker, if a target is hit from behind in crouch stealth you get 100% crit chance.

Depends what character I'm on. If I'm on my tank, I will survive. I have way too much health and resistances.
If I'm on my medium armor stam build, I will die regardless if a ganker focuses me and I'm not wary. Even if they use incap strike instead of the 2h ultimate. Last time I was ganked it was from a heavy DW attack, incap strike and viper. When I went to dodge roll away I got hit with velidreth and died. I mean, they've always had the tools available to kill you quickly if they have the right setup.

you dont need that move that guarantees a crit as a ganker, if a target is hit from behind in crouch stealth you get 100% crit chance.

Maybe he means if I'm already in a fight with a Nightblade and they use shadowy disguise for a guaranteed crit on his next attack. In that case I will be prepared and have time to defend myself, or just bring him out of stealth.

No ultimate has ever one shot my 5 LA 23k health mag sorc with no shields. Max I've seen was an incap for about 16k. Gankers already deal a lot of damage from stealth or otherwise. Now they have what amounts to an "I win" button. one skill that hits for an insane amount of damage AND can also be set up in a gank combo with standard stamblade burst. We are now talking around 40k damage instantly from stealth. If you think that one shotting a tank from stealth is fair, then I guess we have nothing else to discuss.
