How does the character-to-zone scaling work exactly?

At work, curious how the scaling works in specific.

Is everything all throughout Tamriel CP160 and all players scale up to that until they hit 160, a la the DLC zones?

or...

Are the mob levels unchanged from before he patch and character stats now scale dynamically depending on which zone they are in?

Good question. Thought zones scaled to the level of your character. Stands to be corrected.

    Option A.

All of Tamriel works like only the DLC's used to. Everything is "CP160" (although mobs no longer show a level) and you are scaled up to it.

ALL NPC are CP160. You are battle-leveled like Wrothgar but your total capability against those CP160 takes into account your gear and skills etc.

New Character in a starter zone may feel like it is harder to kill original NPC until they get some armor and weapons and skills going.

And you XP for kills is scaled to your character level not the Zone or the level between you and the NPC, and it is now always 100% XP vs any given NPC.

It's all 160, all the time, everywhere.

If your character is not CP160, then it's battle leveled like for Wrothgar or Hews Bane so your Health and such increase. However you still have the skills of a low level scrub, so not all combat is going to be successful, so aggro carefully.
Enjoy the game, life is what you really want to be worried about.

Ah I see, thanks. Was kinda hoping it was gonna be the latter for the sake of seperating the newbie players from the vet players, but I'm sure I'll adapt.

At the moment I´m at my new NB (level 42 for now). Doing the mainquest in reapers march and get´s 1 shooted by the boss. ZOS, how can this be intended. Before patch I could easily kill this boss with my level 42 character. Now since It´s battlescaled to cp160 i get 1 shooted.......

A main story boss? Cos I do know that world bosses were rebalanced to be done by 4 people.

Next time you enter check that bosses HP, they could be much higher than you remember.

    Poorly.

If you enjoy leveling characters and creating alts, you're not going to have a fun time. It's a *** miserable experience, even with really great-for-your-level (aka purple crafted sets) gear.

Pretty much killed the game for me, as I prefer the solo/leveling content for my downtime and only do trials/group content once or twice a week.

They also changed up battle levelling for lower level characters. Don't know exactly what it ended up as, but during the PTS low level characters were actually getting a buff for "X% increased damage to mobs"

Yes, the quest were you shall deafeat the Dark Mane. He got 138k hp and his attacks hits for like 9k on me. As a level 42 battlescaled (no buffood tho, but I never use buffood on alts I´m leveling) I´ve got 11k hp. I prefer questing solo. How the *** am I supposed to do that now. With my other character with 580CP it´s not an issue but leveling an alt solo will be a nightmare from now on.

I'm not a fan of level scaling; to me, the whole point of levelling up, learning skills, getting decent gear, etc., is so that you can outgun your opponent. If my stats go up and so do my opponents then the notion of levels becomes essentially meaningless; why bother levelling up if I can just walk around like a scrub safe in the knowledge that the enemies are also scrubs? What's the incentive of grinding to CP500 if my enemies effectively do the same?

I used to love going back to early areas and just running around one-shotting things for no good reason ("Take that, stinking zombie! Remember me? You killed me last time I was here, well now let's see who's the tough guy!"), maybe throwing a random heal to a low-level character as I pass them, and generally feeling godlike for a bit. Now there's no incentive for me to return to my home turf -- I've done all the quests, collected all the things, and seen all the sights, so if I can't even return and be worshipped for my almighty power then that area of the game is dead to me.

The effect of the scaling is that it makes your gear much more important - check for the "stars" on the upper right of your character page. If you hover over it, it will tell you what it deems your weakest gear item is.

For scaled stats, I'd suggest at least somewhere in the 16K - 18K range for buffed health - more if you want to be more tanky. That has kind of been a minimum suggested for max-level characters to avoid "1-shot" kind of death mechanics.
