Has fixed this bugged for many people... Quote this text so it gets bumped and people see it. Not everyone but a lot.

You should check these two line often. On Wednesday, I was getting the bug where you could not see quest markers on the map and compass bar. I checked these two lines and they showed the -1 correctly. On Thursday I checked it again and it showed 0, I changed it to -1 and the bug was fixed. I'm not sure if there are hidden variables that keep it from updating the document, but keep checking these two lines, it may show -1 one day and 0 the next.

By default, the game installation should set it to... -1 It should also NOT change by itself, but weird things can happen with games.

Mine is set to... -1 and I have tried everything and NOTHING works to fix this major problem. I also did a complete uninstall and new clean install and still does not work. I have reported this as a bug and opened tickets and have NOT gotten any help with this major problem whatsoever, I've only gotten copy & pasted responses from (Sarah). I'm an ESO Plus Member and I am on a daily countdown and since I can not play the game at all, I am simply being ripped off due the the patch 2.6.4 breaking the quest journal feature.

What I have found threw checking In-Game, if say your in StormHaven and have say 3 quests u have taken, if u press the "J" key, then select a quest, then press the "M" key to open map, it states that u do not have any quests in this area, even though I am in StormHaven.

So apparently what game code changes they made with patch 2.6.4, they totally forgot to change quest journal code. I also found that one of the error logs shows that patch 2.6.4 lists a bunch of missing files in this location and file...

    ( PATH )
    Zenimax Online\The Elder Scrolls Online\depot\_databuild

    ( FILE )
    databuild_errors.log

List a bunch missing definition files. Not sure if this is the cause of the problem, but needs to be looked into.

As it stands, I am going to loose 7 - 10 days subscription time, being unable to play the game. Compensation will be due. I just hope they location the problem and get it fixed as a lot of players have this very problem.

I wouldn't say an... amazing job, but definitely a patch with changes in the right direction to make the game more refreshed and more playable in lots of other area's. The patch 2.6.4 is riddled with a lot of problems / errors. Lot of missing definition files.

I have found that the problem stems from patch 2.6.4. I found a log file that shows a bunch of missing definition files from the patch upgrade.

They definitely missed a bunch of game code when they implemented the new game changes/features. They will get it sorted out, we just all have to be patient. Just sucks not being able to play and do the quests. I suppose I could just go around killing everything to gain experience. :)

I like the sound of that. I'm still in my 1st month of subscription. I feel like I'm reduced to doing writs because I know the drop-off points, upgrading horsies, and doing some stealing & fencing, and not a whole lot else till the issue is fixed. I haven't had a chance to try the manual usersettings fix, but I had renamed/recreated it, as well as repaired the install, and none of those fixed it. I'll be trying the manual edit later this weekend because I work during the weekends...

This happened to my gf with her account too. We disabled all addons, completely uninstalled/deleted the game and reinstalled. Still no quest markers. She logged on to her account on my computer and everything worked fine for her. Still not working on her computer though.

This makes me believe that, although it's certainly missed files and/or code on the patch side, since you're dealing with 2 different computers, one OK, one not, there's something different between them that makes one susceptible, the other not.

It's definitely not related to the account, since your gf was fine on your pc. BTW did you try your account on her pc? This further supports that they're either detecting something on the end-user's pc during the patch, or failing to detect it, that is contributing to the problem of the missing code and/or files.

I wonder if it's an OS or CPU factor...especially since the manual fix offered here, points at user settings related to threads...

I know that they've said that a fix is coming, I just don't wanna see them fix some but not others, because some as-yet-unidentified factor was overlooked.

I tried my account on her computer and had the same problem as her. Our computers are about opposites with hardware. She has a dual core Pentium, I have a six core AMD. She has a Radeon R7 240, I have a Geforce GTX560ti. We're both running Windows 10 64 bit though.

From what I have checked and tested, all of the problems r due to patch 2.6.4, which was very poorly tested or NOT tested at all by ESO Dev Team.

We will all just have to wait till they release update 13. I've tried everything I could think of and what staff here have posted and nothing works.

Oh well, I just have to wait. Got to find another game to play in the mean time. :(

U can still play the game & quests, u just have to get used to using the top navigation system to find the quest person, but location is difficult to find most of the time.

I was thinking of maybe going and getting as many Shyshards as I can get and some XP as well since detecting new area's gives u XP at same time. I can't do quests, but can do those till monday. :/

This doesn't do crap for me. Mine was always set to -1. This is a very unfortunate bug, and really should have been fixed ASAP as it does really affect the game negatively.

Half the time, you are running in circles to just to turn in the quest because the npc was moved from its original spot. And then the other half of the time, you are running around to figure out where the quest destination is to actually do it. No circles on the map, either, to even give you a clue on the vicinity, and the quest itself isn't very descriptive.

Same issue here...regardless which possible solution i try. I not seeing the quest markers.

The game is nearly unplayable like this.

And to think some people do this for fun! LOL I love role-play and immersion and all but I can't live without my quest markers! Bring them back!

I should try it someday though, problem is you can't walk up to a random NPC and ask them for directions.

I would agree with you about roleplay and immersion. Just one word - Morrowind.

But that's not the point. Morrowind is a single player game, you aren't competing with anyone, you are taking your time.

ESO is an MMO, even if you aren't competing with other players, just the fact that it's an MMO, it requires more efficient gamelpay and no loitering. With the quest markers not working, I just won't bother trying to play it until its fixed. Morrowind is another story - when I turn it on, the next time I turn it off, I have a 1 week beard.

This makes it sound like the usersettings.txt may have another setting that effects this that was reset when you had to pretend you were new again... BTW, it wrote a new file at that point... might be worth trying something similar on purpose relating to that.
