It's been said a billion times over that the RNG loot systems in various areas of the game are horrible. VMA is too difficult to be rewarding useless crap 95% of the time. It seems like the only Spell Power Cure drops I get are reinforced and well-fitted. Nobody wants this garbage. I get sick of content when I have to do it 100 times to get what I want. It's not fun.
You have too many utterly useless traits in circulation. I'll just list every trait and what I think of it from a CP160 perspective.
ARMOR:
Divines: Great. Absolutely a good trait to have plenty of.
Prosperous: Useless. Unless you compensate with crown repair kits, your repair bill will outweigh the additional gold gained when compared to...
Impenetrable: Awesome for PVP and better for farming gold.
Infused: Pretty good on your "big" pieces. Less useful on smaller pieces but still better than some other traits.
Nirnhoned: Most often just serves to be that last researched trait so you can craft 9-trait gear. Nice to make a tanky light-armor build (something I have done as a healer). Not optimal.
Reinforced: Good on select heavy pieces and absolutely useless pretty much everywhere else.
Sturdy: I don't know how much of this tanks are using because I don't play one but I imagine it's a desirable trait.
Training: Awesome until you get to max level, at which point WHY DOES ANYTHING HAVE THIS TRAIT?!
Well-Fitted: I don't know if anyone cares about this trait. I honestly can't say if it is useful. I just hate having it on more than half of my light armor drops.
WEAPONS:
Charged: Go away. I hate you.
Defending: Awesome. Lots of damage resist. Great for my back bar in PVP to mitigate gankers. You know, if I could ever get that defending resto staff from VMA.
Infused: What are you? Why are you? Stop that.
Nirnhoned: Underappreciated because it's not the optimal DPS option. I find this trait has a wonderfully useful spot on my healer's DPS bar because it bolsters my passive heals as well as damage, whereas sharpened would only assist in damage.
Powered: I just don't find this useful. It's technically more healing than Nirnhoned but I usually find my heals are more than high enough without having to give up damage potential for this trait.
Precise: Pretty cool. The critical chance is nice. Still not as good as sharpened but it has its uses.
Sharpened: The best DPS trait. Everyone wants it.
Training: See ARMOR
Decisive: Good for niche builds, like ultimate spam tanks, but just another useless trait cluttering the loot tables for most of us.
As you can see, there are few traits I care to have. Each player has a different build that would benefit more from different traits, but most people (not tanks) are generally sticking with Divines / Sharpened as BiS.
There have been tons of suggestions that have been offered up and promptly ignored, so here is another one. Refining loot tables would be a lot of work and would undoubtedly ruin someone's plans at some niche build that they 100% should be allowed to make, sub-optimal or not. I'm sure somebody wants those stupid well-fitted Spell Power Cure drops I've been deconning left and right. Some traits need improved, even after the last pass they got, but what would really be nice is a re-traiting system.
Give us some means of changing the traits on items we have looted. This drops your chances of getting the weapon you want in VMA from 1-in-108 to 1-in-12. You still have to work for it. You still have a statistical likelihood of spending over 12 hours in the content if you're decent at it. This system would help a lot with dungeon drops as well.
That all said, it should be expensive to do this. I'm sure ZOS can think of some way of putting in something you can obtain through difficult content that is consumed to redo a trait.
Just as an example with little thought put into it, say you need an item of the same type, rarity, and trait to consume, along with a rarely obtained gold crafting item from trials, VMA final chests, and weekly rewards. Something rare enough that the value of the item would be high and you wouldn't be able to just change traits on everything you find.
Anyway, back to the grind to get the gear I need. Well, once the server is up.
