14m 59seconds...

So i join the activity finder, it says under 1 hour waiting time, immediately it groups me with 3 others then 1 of them disbands and now i have to wait 14m 59seconds - this game is laughable on times. Why implement something to deter people from leaving groups and then not implement it correctly ? 4 of us are being punished for something only 1 of us had control over...

P.S this isn't another nerf Templar thread ;)

The dungeon finder times are so off because not many people use it. Whenever someone needs a group for anything they just spam zone chat. Dungeon finder has been broken forever so everyone is used to zone chat LFG now.

The lockout timer was a great idea... in concept.

The way they actually implemented it is monumentally stupid.

And what's even more stupid is how long it's been broken without them even trying to fix it. :(

Happened 3 times the other night to me, was an hour before I got in my first dungeon. I can't fathom the reason behind the 15 min wait.

The group finder tool really sucks. I spent hours in the the que just because I wanted to do a dungeon or two. I play mostly PvP and I had to leave PvP to que which basically takes away from my play time.

Wouldn't it be nice to log in and a few minutes later to find a group of friendly people to do silver, gold and randoms or even trials? Wouldn't it be nice to have all your dungeons done in a short amount of time? :)

This is why i created 'Friendly Dungeon Runners' , I wanted to play the game instead of complain about it. I wanted to find a group of players that enjoyed doing dungeons and most important I wanted to find caring, understanding and friendly players.

Since early August ( when the guild was created ) there has only been 1 problem. That problem was squashed with a group hug, but other than that the guild has been perfect.

Come join us if you can, and say goodbye to the group dungeon tool forever. We currently have 188 friendly members and still growing everyday.

    The secret formula is

Friendly people + dungeon runs = Awesome!

That's why any experienced dev would not design a punishment system to trigger instantly but rather after repeated actions.

Leave once, fine. Leave twice or three times within a minute or two after leaving another group made by the finder? "Hey, you're not staying in groups maybe you need a time out'

What's sadder is this paints GTA Online in a better light when they use to be really really sensitive with the bad sport lobby in a game based around destruction.

Well the penalty was implemented when casuals started to complain all over forum how they get kicked from party because they have low CP and so on. Since ZoS seems to cater only to casuals, they promptly implemented penalty for leaving the group. Now both casuals and elitists have to wait 15 to requeue because elitists still wont run with casuals even with 15min penalty.
Im not try to push the blame one way or the other, just saying how it came to situation we have now. I myself never use finder since my exp with those groups is terrible, witt more then 50% of the time i end up leaving the group at some point because healers dont have a single heal sloted or dps doing only LA/HAs and stuff like that.

Actually you can disband the group so long as your the leader. I have the hardest time trying to form my own group, so I always use the group finder tool. I've done it before when my group all agreed to a mutual disband so we could all try a different dungeon together.

I was the leader the other day and I tried disbanding the group because two of my guildies and I picked up a 3rd who wasn't up to running normal ICP without a tank and left the group. So we figured we'd just wait the 15 minutes and queue for a different dungeon hopefully. I was not able to disband the group. I could only leave.

And yet, if those elite players are running the silver pledge, they would probably be able to take a casual with them and complete the pledge in the 15 minutes they would be cooling down anyway.

Despite the dig at casuals, this is pretty much what happened. The tool was implemented because either (1) casuals complained or (2) elitists were jerks - depending on your point of view. There's validity to both sides. It was implemented poorly, which is why I dislike using it (the wait time mostly to find a group).

(By the way, I have run a couple of dozen group activity runs and I've never had that experience. Maybe everyone else in the group was just good enough and I didn't notice, but I really think I would have noticed the lack of heals.)

But really, the group activity finder has never been my favorite way to find a group. In fact, in priority of ways to find a group, it's dead last or not at all:

    Ways to Find A Group:

    1. Join a guild that runs dungeons. Chat or voice with people so they know who you are. Help them out when they need runs and then they will help you when you need runs. This is my number one way to find a group.

NOTE: Not every group is the same and finding a good group is kind of like dating. You may have to work through a few groups before you find one you like.

    2. Friends. Make friends. Don't just spam friend invites. (Every time someone sends me a friend invite and they don't talk to me for like a week I delete them.) This is a social experience; be social. Treat them like, you know, friends. They'll be more likely to help you out when you need a group (and you will want to help them out).

    3. Join an LFG group in Zone Chat. Next to the tool, my least favorite way to join a group, but I'll do it sometimes if I see the leader spamming long enough and I think I can help out. I try to chat with the group leader first, though, to see what's up? Are they doing a trial for the leaderboard, are they just having fun, what? Honestly, while this may seem like the least effective way to find a group, but not only do I find groups this way, I also found a great guild this way.

    4. Group Activity Tool. Actually, I have to be pretty desperate to use this. I used it a bit when it came out but not so much anymore.

Some tips on making a group work as a player:

    - Be honest. If you can't heal, say so. Don't represent yourself to be a healer if you're not just to get a group. That is very annoying for everyone. People will kick you or not invite you back.

    - Try not to keep people waiting. If you say you can do a group, try to be ready - or tell people how long you will be. Players are often waiting for you to get there. I keep all my characters "clean" (e.g. ready to go - food ready, pots ready, empty inventory, weapons charged.) If I'm running quests and someone needs a group, I log into one of the clean characters and I'm ready to go.

    - If you feel a little nervous about your abilities, speak up. Most players I've seen, even in PUGs, will help you. There's some jerks out there, sure. If that happens, move on and drop them like a bad boyfriend.

    - If you get a better offer, tell people. Don't just drop and run. People really don't like that (you wouldn't like it).

    - It's not all about you. Really. Participate and help out the group. If someone needs another run, and you have time, do it. They helped you, help them. You might get a friend out of this, one that you actually like to run with.

Some tips on making groups work as a leader:

    - It's not about you. Really. Sure you assembled the group for a reason, but it's about all the members. Make sure everyone is getting their drops, make sure they pick up the quest, and so on. Nothing is more frustrating for a new player than to run a dungeon and get nothing for their effort.
    -
    - If you're running a trial for the leaderboard, tell people. It's not fair to pull people in on a competitive run and then complain that they're not doing what you want them to. If you're going competitive, make sure your group understands that.
    -
    - Don't try to force a low level player to fit your group. You know what I mean: you've been trying to get group together for a half hour and a low level player asks to join. You agree because you're tired of waiting. Now you have 3 CP160s and 1 CP10. Then you try to run a vet dungeon and your low level gets wiped all the time. Players get frustrated and start blaming the CP10. But, really, it's your fault as a leader for inviting someone that low. If you can't carry them, then hand the crown to them so the dungeon sets to their level. Or wait until you get a more experienced player.

    - Thank everyone. Really. You formed the group to get a run and they helped out. Thank them, and even better, ask if they need a run.

At the end of the day, it's just a game - and a social one, at that. Whether you like it or not, your reputation will follow you. And some people keep notes on particularly annoying players ... :)
