An option for two sets of graphics settings. One for PVE one for PVP that automatically activate.

Hey

This is a suggestion for an option that I think would make a great difference for the quality of life of the game. Its quite simple and Im pretty sure I saw it implemented in Guild Wars 2 where it worked really well. It is no secret there is a massive performance / FPS difference between PVP and PVE. I myself get a solid 60 FPS with vsync on everywhere in PVE areas but as soon as there is a big fight in PVP my framerate tanks.

My idea is to add two sets of graphics settings. One activated automatically when in PVE one in PVP. That way you can have acceptable performance in both types of gameplay without having to change all the settings every time you want to play the other game type.

Thanks for listening.

I'd love that, too. <3 I'd also love Cyrodiil to have its own unique CP system (I don't want to pay 3K every time I go to Cyrodiil and another 3K every time I leave), and a built in system to adjust skills and morphs specifically for Cyrodiil.

GW2 was always laggy in PvP.

So what ur saying is that u want amazing graphic settings in PvE and *** ones in PvP? That would be like going from an iPhone to an old Nokia lmao

Instead of ZOS implementing a lazy Graphics option I rather have them spend some of that Crown Store money we've been throwing at them and Update their servers. It's 2016, almost 2017. We shouldn't have lag anywhere.

Only problem, many graphic setting changes like that would require restart of the entire game software to initialize the graphics. So, probably not a possibility.

Also look at it this way. The Dro'Matra Seche was 4500 Crowns (right?). Let's say 1000 non-ESO+ members across all platforms got that mount by buying the $39 5500 Crown package. 1000x40 = $40,000. They make bank off of Crown Store so they should take some of that money and spend it on servers to fix the annoying lag everyone is experiencing.

Couple things I wanna point out:

    1. OP's idea would not work. The shift between PvE and PvP would be too constant and cause more problems than fix. In fact, PvE is plenty present where PvP is. In Cyrodiil it's keep/resource guards and the occasional mobs you encounter while traveling between keeps. In Imperial City its all the mobs found all over the place. In Duels across Tamriel PvE mobs can still interfere. So yeah, more problems than fixes.

    2. I want to point out something I noticed when playing FF14 last night: A small crowd of probably a dozen players at MOST caused considerable lag in that game for me on console. ESO? It handles crowds WAY better. Say what ya want about Cyrodiil and town lag but comparatively speaking Zenimax is doing awesomely! Props Zenimax for making your game able to handle crowds of considerable size! The reason Cyrodiil lags so hard is because it's handling players AND abilities though.

I mean yeh its $40,000 and eso+ but the company never releases number's since its a private organization, so you can only speculate.

To me the game has made backs investment more then twice over with releases old content from PC alone for example they had over 600,000 buy the game on Steam with 93% playing it so going to assume the they didn't refund it. current now they have about 2,000 to 3,000 play a day with 50,000 of them playing bi weekly so the player base of the computer side I would say is around 70,000+? without numbers from first release before steam release even if half payed for eso+ once 35k people they would of still made $535,000 for one month from eso+.

here is the numbers for reference https://steamdb.info/app/306130/graphs/

There is an add on called Votan's adaptive settings that will adjust your settings to the area you're in. So if you are in a crowded city it will reduce your lag by lowering some settings. Also in heavy sieges it will do the same.

I understand what your saying but the difference in the amount of stuff being drawn in a pvp siege battle vs the open world is very big so I dont know if its even possible to make the game run the same in PVP as in PVE. At least this way you can choose how smooth you want it and how far your willing to sacrifice graphics.
Only problem, many graphic setting changes like that would require restart of the entire game software to initialize the graphics. So, probably not a possibility.

Yeah that could be an issue depending on whether ESO needs to restart to change settings. I know a lot of other games do. However I dont think ESO does i think all it needs is a map change in which case they could change the settings on the loading screens to Cyrodil.

To point one thats not exactly what I envisioned. Basically one set of graphics for the whole of Cyrodil and one set of graphics for everything outside.

To point 2 I agree with you there Im not complaining about performance in PVP as I understand why its worse with the hundreds of people all spamming spells. Im just saying that there is a difference in performance and this could allow people to work around that gap between Cyrodil and the rest of the world.

That's honestly a lazy way to cut corners. I mean sure we could just shoot lemons and swing sticks to lighten the server load but how fun would THAT be :/

I understand you want an ideal fix but this at least will mitigate the downsides for a fairly small investment of dev time, making it somewhat likely Zenimax could add this.

Thing is Zenimax constantly tweaks abilities to improve Cyrodiil performance. Problem is, kind of hard for even low-quality graphics and mechanics to deal with 100 vs 100 zergs all shooting each other. I accept that it's a work in progress, regardless of how long it takes. Also there is no telling how many other factors contribute to the lag beyond graphics.

I tested the graphics settings and none of them require a restart. Several require a loading screen but thats it so it could work. Just need to apply it on the Cyrodil loading screen.

Please let me know how it goes. Im concerned about anything that edits the graphics as your FPS drops cus if its not instant then it will make the FPS seem worse than it is as it spikes from low to high. Consistency is king when looking for smooth framerates.
