8 Slots in the Standard Game. Been that way since Launch. However a recent update allowed you to purchase more characters slots at 1500 Crowns each.

So it works as I thought just got confused for a moment

I have 6 playable characters and a mule character and manage my inventory just fine, WITHOUT a crafting bag.

Your problem stems from holding on to so many sets instead of those that are actually useful for your classes and keeping them in your bank instead of carrying them on their intended character.

For example, I have my Templar keep SPC and Twilight's Remedy for Trials but keep a set of Julianos and Willpower in his inventory instead of in the bank.

Sets that I've no interest in or no longer seem as useful as they once did (Leeching Plate, Overwhelming Surge, etc.) I just decon for the mats.

Well, this humble Khajiit has 11 characters to experience the beauty of Tamriel with...

And this one likes to keep sets so that theory crafting is more interesting. If Khajiit did as you did and decon sets that were not good at the time, this one would not have my tank in the good position it is in now.

Humble Khajiit admits to hoarding but this is the fun of this game.

This here is the definition of a hoarder, someone who gathers items and stores them away despite the fact that they will never use them. Sell the items that you do not need and you will make some money in the process and clear a lot of space.

some of the locations are a little bit out of the way depending on what you're doing at any given time...I'll hang onto a few until I naturally come near one of the survey sites then pound them out all at once...but then I don't usually hang onto more than 3 or 4 of a given type at any time...sometimes my need for the mats outweighs the inconvenience of going out of my way <g>
