Weapon damage vs actual damage output

Hey I have a theory crafting question for everyone.

I'm looking into to removing 1 piece kena and 3 night mothers gaze to add viscious ophidian 3 piece to get full agility and minor slayer. I would lose 2 pieces of weapon damage but the crit would balance out because 2 piece viscious also gives me crit.

My question is, how much does 129 weapon damage actually equate out to in terms of raw damage percentage, keeping everything else (crit, armor pen, max stam) the same?

If losing 2 pieces of weapon damage equals more than 5% damage loss, then minor slayer would be less effective.

Thanks in advance for the replies.

We define a variable: Effective Weapon Damage, which is going to be defined as the sum of Max Stamina multiplied by a weapon damage constant, and weapon damage.

    Define:

    MaxStam = Maximum Stamina

WDConst = Stamina to weapon damage conversion (10.54 Stamina is about 1 Weapon Damage)

WeaponDamage = Weapon Damage without the extra 129 weapon damage

    So, what you're asking is if (MaxStam*WDConst + (WeaponDamage + 129))/(MaxStam*WDConst + WeaponDamage) > 1.05

So, you can work out the algebra (subsitute MaxStam*WDConst as X, and Weapon Damage as Y, and 129 as C)

    This gets (X+Y+C)/(X+Y) > 1.05. Expand this out, and you'll get 1 + C/(X+Y) > 1.05

    Or C/(X+Y) > .05.

    Reexpand, to get 129/(MaxStam*WDConst + WeaponDamage) > .05

If this ratio is true, then it is better to take the 129 damage (it's true if the resultant is greater than .05)

To give you an example, I did this with 33k stamina and 3600 Weapon Damage, and got an answer of .019

That means that with those stats, Minor Slayer is still more effective.

Hey, just did a few more calculations with my Stamplar:

    Found Max Stamina: 36553
    Unbuffed Weapon Damage: 3628
Buffed Weapon Damage (Major Brutality): 4191

Note: Formula for buffed weapon damage is: (1.2*129)/(MaxStamina*WDConst + BuffedWeaponDamage) (also, the 1.2 becomes 1.25 if Minor Brutality is added.

The Unbuffed Constant for me is: .018

The Buffed Constant for me is: .02

So, as you can tell, Minor Slayer is better in both cases.

    What is your race/class?

It might be easier to determine what your ideal loadout would be if you consider the entire setup. What other gear are you running?
    Wood Elf Stam NB (PVP)
    Redguard Stam Sorc (PVP)
    Altmer NB (DPS)
    Imperial DK (Tank)
    Redguard DK (DPS)
    Altmer Templar (Healer)

So what I got using that formula with 4000 Wepon damage and 38000 max stamina is about 1.7% damage increase. So the higher your stam and wep damage are, the less of an impact a flat amount of wep damage will give you, (guess that's pretty intuitive) while no matter what, minor slayer will continually scale with it. So even losing 2 pieces of weapon damage will only net me between a 3 to 4% loss of damage while minor slayer will give me a flat 5% no matter what.

Thanks for the math, that's exactly what I was looking for.
