Why did my maelstrom stage reset?

I was on the boss round a few hours ago when i logged out and just logged in to find I'm back on round 1. Why did this reset?

    When you log out, the instance that was created for the solo dungeon eventually expires, so it no longer has an up to date version of which round you are on. As long as you checkpoint at the stage's main boss, you are safe to advance to the next stage, but you ideally need to clear that stage in order to be 'safe' from that point.

    That is stupid. The game infinitely remembers my crafting levels. Why can't it remembe why I left off in maelstrom?

    Your quest only saves the arena, not the round.

    That doesn't make sense. All day I'd be beating a round and take a break, come back, and if pick up where I left off. Until the last time

    Instances and attributes of a character aren't even a little bit comparable.

    Instances are dynamically generated by the server as they are needed, and remain until they are no longer needed, at which point they are removed and the server resources dedicated to those instances are re-allocated to generate other instances.

    Attributes of a character, or an item, or whatever are static pieces of data that are written once to a table, and then persist in that table until something occurs to over-write that piece of data with a new one.

    Did you grab the quest at the beginning? That will save the arena you are on, but not the wave. Ie, you get to the boss of spiral shadows and leave, you will come back ON arena 6, at wave one.
