At what point do you decide you've had enough with your guild?

It's been bugging me lately, I'm not going to name and shame any guild here as I don't think it's tolerated but I've been part of a guild the last 6 months or so and they just seem to be take, take, take. The moment you miss a weekly donation they're onto you through the PSN messaging system, take too much out of the bank, you get demoted. I've pumped literally hundreds of thousands into the guild bank, whenever I take stuff out of the bank I always put in gold to the tune of around 10-20k. There's been xivkyn and mercenary motifs filling the bank for ages, I decided to take a full set of each for my other character which still left around 75 motifs still in the bank, got a pm and demotion. Now this may sound fair but I put in things like Bugloss, Columbine, Rosin, Kuta, I craft gold glyphs and drop them in, Julianos sets, Hunding's sets etc add to that the thousands I put in on a weekly basis. If you don't pay for 2 weeks, you're out basically. One member has been instrumental in getting the guild active in trials and he has his own trial guild. Last night the GM kicked 180 people from the guild, prerogative, I have no issue. This one guy in particular joked about the clear out and he got kicked, without even a pause for thought. All this has culminated in me thinking of leaving but it just seems like I've put so much into it financially that to walk away empty handed would be a waste. This is also compounded by the fact that the guild also has another guild which is now getting the Wayrest traders every week while the one I'm in now gets Belkarth every week. Sales have tumbled as a result.

What would you do?

There are lots of good guilds around, if the one you're currently in doesn't work for you, leave it. Note I said work for you, not you work for them. It sounds like the GM is power-tripping, and there's no reason you need to deal with that. I personally will never belong a guild that requires me to pay dues or do pretty much anything outside of my normal gameplay routine.

Frankly I'd say it's mind boggling guilds like this even exist.

Never heard of anything like this on PC, maybe it's a platform target audience difference, but I don't know.

Wouldn't spend a single day in such a guild myself.

If a guild demands you to pay something that's a big red flag. Leave the guild, its not worth it.
Good trading guilds do not need to beggar their members to get a guild trader and keep it.

It sounds like it's strictly a trading guild. One that doesn't keep track of donations. Unless you just want a good trader location I would say you are wasting your time, and resources. Do you even socialise with other members?!?

I've only started socialising recently when the text chat came in and as I said, the one guy got kicked last night for a really nonchalant comment. He said in guild chat "wow down to 320, make that 319 ;)" Next comment was "bye :]" and he's kicked. He's the guy who has got me onto trials, and opened my network up. The GM and the officers don't really do anything with the members, only give out warnings in text chat if someone is trying to sell something, speaking of which one dude got kicked for that last week.

Any guild which asks me to become a member, then immediately sets up a required donation schedule is a guild I leave. I refuse to do donations because I'm not in this game to rack up useless currency.

It has become so bad, I've elected just to remain guild free. I'm never confident of a system which allows a member of a guild to completely wipe the bank without any safeguards to prevent it.

You need to leave. You're staying only based off of something called the sunken cost fallacy.
You've sunk so much into this thing that you don't want to leave empty handed, but if you stay, that's only going to get worse and worse and you'll still be empty handed.

    Sunken cost.

You are not getting your time and investment back. Move on before losing more.
Just so that everyone knows, my Altmer still can't have black hair. About a dozen of Altmer NPCs in the game have black hair. Just saying.

    Meet my characters:
    Command: Do the thing.

Zadarri, Khajiit Fist of Thalmor: The thing was done, as commanded.
Durza gra-Maghul, Orc blacksmith: The thing was done perfectly, in the most efficient way.
Tegwen, Bosmer troublemaker: You can't prove I didn't do the thing.
Sings-Many-Songs, Argonian fisher: Sure, I'll do the thing... Eventually. Maybe.
Aerindel, Altmer stormcaller: After extensive research, I've come to the conclusion that doing the thing would be a waste of resources.
Liliel, Dunmer pyromancer: Aerindel said I shouldn't do the thing. Something about "resources".
Gyda Snowcaller, Nord cryomancer: I will find a way to do it that won't waste resources and make Aerindel proud of me.
Beatrice Leoriane, Breton vampire: I persuaded someone else into doing the thing. You are welcome, dear.
Sahima, Redguard performer: Doing the thing sounds awfully unpleasant and really not my problem.
Ellaria Valerius, Imperial priestess: I'll pray to the Eight for the thing to be done, if it is Their will.

I have no idea what made you invest so much in this guild in the first place but if you're not happy, leave. The game is for fun in your off time, if anything in it makes it less fun get rid of it. Don't let the fact that you've already invested money keep you around, i mean it's just pretend money and it's gone anyway. Feeling pissed off/used/whatever is on the other hand very real and sinking more money into it isn't going to make you feel better about it.

If the trader is so good that you don't want to get rid of them cus of that, just pay your weekly donation if it doesn't cut into your profits too much and don't interact with the guild anything beyond selling your items, sounds like it's just a trade guild anyway. However if the weekly donations are very high i'd tell them to *** off. By what you wrote, i'm getting the impression they're likely just to keep most of the money for themselves anyway.

Any guild that requires a donation is a joke. Fair enough some guilds ask for them and appreciate what they get, but to enforce them would mean I'd leave straight away

Well, same goes for members from the guildmaster or officer's standpoint, when certain members are seemingly getting out of hand and start to deviate from its guild's policy or being borderline disruptive or engaging on contents/discussion that could be deemed disturbing or offensive. It is the nature of the beast. None of the guilds on here are real professional organizations. We are just players and people of all ages from all walks of life. A good guild needs to be casual, but with some sense of formality, organization and unity. In my guild, we are casual. There is no pressure, but I am quite professional in real life and still would like a little bit of professionalism and maturity in my guild members. Definitely, any conducts deemed disruptive or offensive in nature are not tolerated in my guild. We are here to play ESO, have fun and potentially make friends by joining a guild, but it still does not need to be a college frat-house like behaviors. We are all adults and mature, but being an adult and mature in my circle of life do not include cursing every other word in your vocab or discussions that would normally occur when boys' nights out on the town. Maybe in some, fine, not judging those folks, if that's the case, but not in mine.

I also disagree with those who deems donations are unfit or a joke within a guild. Donation is voluntary, and we have many generous members who regularly donated gold. It is not required nor pressured. As my guild is non-fee, we solely rely on raffles and other fund raising events to raise funds towards our trader bidding, and (voluntary) donations are appreciated and all proceeds go toward the trader's bidding and other guild events. However, if a guild that has a required weekly fee, particularly those with 5k or more, then donations may not be likely to occur. So, I can't say donation, in itself, is unwarranted or a joke. Definitely, in a real life, donations are life-line for non-profit and charity organizations.

To me it depends. It sounds like it is a trading guild. If you are making money, what a trading guild is for, I would probably stay. But i would also cut back on my giving and my time invested and if they were getting that annoying I would probably edit my chat channels so the guild channel doesnt even show. But im on pc so i think it is easier for use to just ignore people.

Now if you think they are scamming you in some way I would probably leave even if i was making a bunch of money.

I've looked at the withdrawals and I know the GM has an alt account, a lot of things got cleaned out by this account in the bank and said alt account is selling a lot of stuff on their alt Guild.

Also how does bidding work? Do you withdraw the cash from the bank first to bid or is it just an automatic transaction out of the guild bank and into the bid?

It's an automatic withdrawal from the guild bank to the "Holding account". If you lose the bid, the money gets put right back into the guild bank. It never touches a character's inventory.

Right thanks, so there should be no reason for the GM to withdraw 2m in gold and not put it back then?

Wow there are guilds like that? Trading guilds ( because this sounds like a trading guild ) im in have the only requirement of being an active trader. U dont have to socialize donate or anything. Just list enough stuff each week to be profitable to the guild via the taxes to keep the trader and done.
My recommendation is to run and never look back
