Roll Dodging on Console has issues. [We need new key-binds!]

Hello. I'd like to discuss something that only effects players on console because we play on controllers. To Roll Dodge you need to use the L2 button on your controller which is the Block Button. Well, sometimes this leads to blocking projectiles or attacks instead of dodging them and draining your stamina if you do not perform the action quick enough or when lag is present.

This is a problem because sometimes this leads to issues with builds that utilize roll-dodge a lot. You only have a very short window in which you can roll dodge with L2+X before you block and stop your stamina regeneration and/or block an incoming attack instead of trying to dodge it. This issue can lead to a lot more stamina being wasted if you are not quick enough when performing this action.

In my opinion it would be awesome if we could separate the Block Button from the Roll Dodge Button on console. The Block button is used for to many actions and it causes anyone who wants to perform BASH or Roll Dodge more stamina then it should in some scenarios because stamina regeneration is turned off while blocking.

Here's a video showcasing me roll dodging and sometimes blocking a projectile instead of dodging it if im to slow to click X after i've clicked L2. Something to notice.. it is some what tedious to click L2 and X quick enough for it to not stop my stamina regeneration. 0:25 in the video is the best showcase of this happening, i Block for a very very short amount of time when trying to roll dodge but it still counted the projectile as blocked and not dodged.

Also at 0:31 in the video i dodge the projectile but still stop my stamina regeneration as a result of clicking the block button to roll dodge. My stamina percentage then jumps from 24% to 27% and back to 24% as if the stamina regeneration was suppose to tick but got reverted since i blocked for a split second. My stamina bar is just fluctuating really weirdly though out the video.

In general i think taking away stamina regeneration from Blocking hurts Console users a lot more then PC users. Bashing or Roll Dodging always requires the use of the Block button. You have to either click L2+X or L2+R2 very fast in order to hit the window in which you are not blocking thus stopping your stamina regeneration.

I think it's time Console User's has some more options implemented for key binds to stop this issue from happening.

A quick solution in my opinion would be to implement a new function for sprint. In many games i play, if you Double Tap the Left ANALOG stick twice in a forward direction you start to sprint. This then means you could place Sneak onto the L3 button and Roll Dodge onto the R3 button.

Bash would still need its own key bind but i don't know where it could go. Another fix would be to add a short cool-down like 0.5-1 second while blocking before stamina regeneration kicks off (this also encourages smart use of block instead of not blocking at all since currently its better to just take the hit and heal).

I'm not sure if there is already a mechanic in place for console users to prevent no lose of stamina regeneration while roll dodging or bashing. I'm pretty sure there is a small window in which you can perform these actions before stamina regeneration is cut off after using the block button but it seems too short. I'm not really sure.

@Wrobel Is there something weird going on? Can we get some new keybinds for console? No stamina regeneration while blocking makes console Bashing and Roll Dodging very wonky. Many console players have been avoiding Bash combo's and Roll Dodging because of this.

Would be awesome if they gave us they key mapping function the PC players have that is coded into the game already.

The same one you use if you hook an Xbox controller or PS4 controller up to a PC.

Then you could map dodge roll to a single key wherever you wanted it.

Are you sure PC players can key-bind on the controller support though? I'm pretty sure the controller support just emulates the console UI and control's.

Key-binds for console is something players have wanted for a long time. There was a work around to switch Sneak and Weapon swap (R3 with Right D-pad) but that was through the PS4's own controller interface.

We really need an option to separate Block from Interrupt and Roll-Dodge.

I know PS4 has accessibility settings where you can change keys around and stuff but I'm not sure if that would make stamina start regening again. Is it something that needs to be changed in game or would that work?

Let me get rid of the stupid emote button. Would love to put dodge roll or even ultimates as that button (can map it to back on my elite controller then).

Sorry but IMO it is fine. you just have to learn to press both buttons simultaneously. Im playing mainly a stamblade in pvp and i have no problem with it.

On Xbox we have the elite controller so we can map 4 buttons to the extra paddles on the back. This is a godsend when it comes to weapon swapping and potions in PvP

I know i know... however i still would like to see keybinds for console. Just because is it fine does not mean we should not have more options to customize the way we play.

With keybinds we could alleviate some of these potenail issues. Technically doing continuous roll dodges is easier to do by holding down L2 but that turns off regen. Its tedious to click L2+X very quickly and release to ensure regen keeps flowing while doing mulitple roll dodges. With key binds you could move block to something else and now hold L2 and just click X for mulitple rolls which makes combat feel smoother and creates less strain on your fingers but also keeps regen flowing.

This was not an issue when we had regen while blocking but now its a slight issue.

Unfortunately though this doesn't change bash and roll-dodge being tied to blocking, which is a problem for all console setups and is only created because of very limited key bind options. Everyone has buttons they tend to use more or less and giving the option to customize your key binds is long overdue. Having Block tied to bash and roll dodge is an unnecessary restriction that hampers smooth game play.

Exactly. This wasn't that big of a deal when we had regen while blocking. Now if you bash or roll dodge you can and will stop your regen every once in awhile because of are key-binds.

Block and Roll dodge leads to weird interactions. You can block an attack instead of dodging it like i showcased in my video if you hold block for a split second to long before clicking X(ps4) to roll.

Bash builds are also punished compared to pc since you stop your regen. Pc can bash without ever blocking once which saves regen.

Its just a design flaw for controllers after block regen was cut off.

The worst part is being from a region other than US/EU.
I have about 400-500ms of lag, being from Australia. Every time i dodge roll on console, I hold block for an additional 0.5s after I've completed the dodge roll.

    Happens to me quite often.

    I think it's lag.

Nevertheless, it would be nice to be able to bind it elsewhere.

That and assassination and drinking blood share the same buttons and npc placement, bindings are a mess in this game.
