Problem with friend's list

Has anyone had the same problem? I tried to add a friend to my list, but this was not possible as "That account cannot have any more friends". Then I tried to delete some friend from the list, but the result was always the same, and the inscription on the top right screen saying yet "That account cannot have any more friends".
I do not understand what depends. Also I have tried often to add some friends by their name or nickname. But the search never gave the results, and I was never able to add them (and I can guarantee that they are active players). What causes this? I have already opened a ticket, but I would like to know if anyone has had (and perhaps solved) the problem.

if it says that account can not have any more friends, it is that person that has too many friends not you, so clearing out your friends list would not change that.

that said i was not aware that we were limited in the number of friends we were allowed

what platform are you btw?

I play on PC. Now I'll try to contact my friend to ask him to clean up his list (so you can see if it works). As to the problem of friends not found (by means of the character or nick name)? you've had the same problem? You know how to fix?

no sorry, im xbox, the only time i search by player is via guild roster & that seems to be working fine.

I had the same message, deleted some people who I do not play with, added new people, worked

Not that it matters a great deal, but the casual way you just said "so I removed a few of my friends to make room" really makes me want to explain what a friends list is supposed to be.

I removed all my friends from the list.. then found out I had nobody on list to start with anyone want to add me so I can delete you? Just want to feel part of the crowd...

95% of the people on my friends list have ended up there as a result of being thrown together in a random dungeon. It feels rude to decline a friendship request after a good group, so I accept - and then both parties immediately forget everything about each other and never interact again.

It's not so much a friends list, as a "people I ran a dungeon with once" list.
