FPS drops - PC

Hey there,

I've been wondering how many people have this FPS issue:

I have stable 40 fps, sometimes more, sometimes less, but it rarely drops below 30. However, when I spend too much time at one spot, or close around it (mostly around towns, no matter whether populated or empty), I notice my fps drops below 20 and stays there, even if I leave that spot. If I ignore it and stay there even longer it gets down to 10 fps. At this point the game is unplayable, my graphics card is basically inactive as if she lost interest in ESO. I know this happens to more people, actually quite many people and the only solution I found is to relog which despite still standing on the same spot brings my fps from 10 to 40+.

So, have you encountered this issue? Does anyone have an idea how to solve it?

Also, there have been patches where I didn't have this issue, but I do most of the time.

This is most likely tied to a UI addon causing a memory leak.
At least last time it happened to me it was. Can't remember which addon was doing it though.

@cjthibs Memory leak would make sense, I'll try turning all my addons off, thanks for the tip.

The same thing happens to me whether I use addons or not. I run the game around 80-100fps, and eventually it'll start stuttering and feels like 10fps although it still reads high. Then it'll start dropping, eventually going to the 20's and I have to restart the game. Reloading UI or anything like that doesn't work.

It also always starts stuttering and dropping if I character swap without restarting the game.

It's annoying, especially when I'm in an extended dungeon like vRoM or vICP and I have to tell everyone I need to restart the client or they may not get heals because key presses and wep swaps are being missed.

@Chew_Magna I don't have to restart the client, I just have to go to my character selection screen, back to the world and all solved. So our problems are probably a bit different. I'm playing with my addons off now, so I'll know whether it helped soon enough.

If it's related to addons usually a quick /reloadui works as well.

I also have this isssue. Had it for a very long time actually and i have zero idea how to fix it. I've noticed however that populated areas kill my fps faster. Cyro, Deshaan, wold boss quest runs in Wrothgar. Mb it have something to do with effects..i dunno. Lowering graphics settings doesnt change anything.

@cjthibs Tried that before /reloadui does not solve the issue, I tried pretty much everything but turn off all addons. Relog is the only thing that helps.

@inf.toniceb17_ESO Yes, I think you are right, populated areas do hasten the process.

I had this issue last night. Right from log in my FPS were between 12 - 18 no matter what I tried to rectify it. I have a top end computer and good internet access, so it almost never happens.

I logged off completely and actually went so far as to restart my system. My FPS loaded right up to my usual 80 + and never dipped the rest of the evening.

Turning off all addons didn't help, but I noticed something interesting. While in Daggerfall, whenever I get close to the Rosy Lion Inn area, my fps starts to drop. It goes from 35+ to 20 point by point, you can watch it slowly drop 35,34,33,32... untill it stops around 20. Even when inside the inn, the fps keeps dropping, despite that being inside building normally increases fps.

When I keep hanging arour there, the fps eventually gets stuck at 20. When I leave quickly, the fps gets slowly back to normal, even if I go towards the crafting stations = more populated area the fps keeps rising until it hits 30+ again.

I wonder why this is happening... my drivers etc. are all up to date. There's plenty of ram memory for the game (game takes cca 2,5gb) and it's happening to more people, not just me :/

    hmmm

running on 4k get around 60 fps most places - i do not do pvp so i have no stats for ic or cyrodiil

at 1080 get 100 fps apart from dense hubs where it will drop to around 50-60.

this is on a high end pc.... and i am not kidding about the high end.
