New player overwhelmed with the dlc content.

KevinBrits
So i just bought ESO on the PS4 and im only level 12. All tho i bought ESO plus inmidiately for the extra stuff but since then i got all this DLC stuff coming at me. Im level 12 and i can go to orsinium and face enemies of 160cp? What is all about that? Can i just start doing the DLC stuff? What does it give me? Gear? Points? Im overwhelmed and i cant find a direction where to really go from now. Should i keep do the low areas and do every quest? Or should i go to imperial city? Is there even a level requirement? Or should i focus on grinding and just level to 50 asap followed by grind spots. Can someone help me out im really confused at the moment where to begin...

The DLC zones will scale you up so you can fight the mobs there. Soon all of Tamriel will be like that. I reccommend you stay away from Cyrodiil and Imperial City if you are brand new because you will get rekt. Even in the lowbie campaign, experienced PvPers are there with quality gear.

If you like quests, then do the quest. They are enjoyable the first time around. Go do the DLC stuff if you want. You'll out level your faction zones but with One Tamriel coming out before long, that won't matter so much.

Just stick to your main faction while leveling. Otherwise if you go the a doc area and then come back you'll be over leveled for the main content. Hit up the doc zones if you get bored of main factions or once you've hit level 50

I really recommend trying out the dark brotherhood DLC/quest line over the other DLCs. You'll learn how to assassinate NPCs, which makes any other sort of questing that much more enjoyable as you look out for NPCs that are isolated from the rest so you can off them and take their booty (which is quick gold if you're sneaky).

It would be best to wait on the DLCs until you have done some content on the base game. For one, you will have more skills to use, and you will need them. For another, you will outlevel the games base content reducing your rewards and exp earned while you go back and complete that part.
Enjoy the game, life is what you really want to be worried about.

my advice, go zone to zone, as the game intended, while keeping up with main story and mages/fighters/undaunted guild quests.

I prefer to start with the base quests (including the mages/fighters) .... no that's not even right. I tend to *** around in Cold Harbor till about level 5, to kind of get a feel for "who is THIS vestige", then wander around in the starter areas (lots of skill points for main questy stuff).

also it gives each character (I run ... many..) a more individual feel.
Tenesi Faryon of Telvanni - Dunmer Sorceress who deliberately sought sacrifice into Cold Harbor to rescue her beloved.
Hisa Ni Caemaire - Altmer Sorceress, member of the Order Draconis and Adept of the House of Dibella.
Broken Branch Toothmaul - goblin (for my goblin characters, I use either orsimer or bosmer templates) Templar, member of the Order Draconis and persistently unskilled pickpocket
Mol gro Durga - Orsimer Socerer/Battlemage who died the first time when the Nibenay Valley chapterhouse of the Order Draconis was destroyed, then went back to Cold Harbor to rescue his second/partner who was still captive. He overestimated his resistance to the hopelessness of Oblivion, about to give up, and looked up to see the golden glow of atherius surrounding a beautiful young woman who extended her hand to him and said "I can help you". He carried Fianna Kingsley out of Cold Harbor on his shoulder. He carried Alvard Stower under one arm. He also irritated the Prophet who had intended the portal for only Mol and Lyris.
    ***
Order Draconis - well c'mon there has to be some explanation for all those dragon tattoos.
House of Dibella - If you have ever seen or read "Memoirs of a Geisha" that's just the beginning...
Nibenay Valley Chapterhouse - Where now stands only desolate ground and a dolmen there once was a thriving community supporting one of the major chapterhouses of the Order Draconis

Shame you are on ps4 and can't type. If you can, try to make friends or join a guild. Definitely use the starter zones before doing any DLC

Thanks alot for the answers guys. This makes some sense. I find it very hard to find a direction in this game since you have all these quests and dont seem to reward that much. Other people recommend to follow grind spots to 50 and do the main quest and skyshards after. But i guess i'll just follow the path towards all these areas.
Once again, appreciate the tips !

There are two ways to play this game. Either you savor the content, ala TES Style. It can take dozens of hours per zone if you explore and listen to NPCs and talk to NPCs that are not related to quests as they usually have something interesting to say, both Post and Pre Quest. If you do that, your leveling will keep up with you just fine. It took me a year to get my first character through all the base game content.

Or, you can have a goal of getting to end game PvP and Trials. If the latter, then quests are just a click fest, grind spots are where you hang your hat, and you can get to end game in just a week or two, even less if your diligent.

Its all up to you. But, first you have to decide what your goal is and what you get out of the game. Then follow that path. Both will get you to the End Game.

This is not to say that you can't savor the content on your first character, then shorten the process on alts through grinding. So, you can play both ways.

Enjoy the game, life is what you really want to be worried about.

Hanging out in grind spots on your first character will very likely ruin the game for you. I would strongly advise against doing that.

My advice would be to follow the main story-lines (the Harborage, Fighters and Mages Guilds plus the main story arc that pushes you to the next area) and whatever side-quests you feel like doing. Take your time, enjoy the scenery and just take it as it comes. Play around with crafting, and start researching armor and weapons NOW, even if you don't think you'll use it later on. Trust me, it doesn't matter how soon you start, you'll wish you'd started sooner...

Save Orsinium for later, but feel free to at least start the thieves guild and dark brotherhood, as they will give you extra skill lines and some nice perks that are both quite cool and useful.

I'd wait on doing DLC until you've done all the factions quests and the vanilla zones, though it's not required. You get "battle-leveled" in DLC zones so you can technically do them at any level. It will be easier at higher levels, since you'll have proper skills and gear, but it's totally possible at level 12. I would definitely wait on the Dark Brotherhood zone called The Gold Coast, though. There are lots of NPC and quests there involving people from the base game, and it's a real treat to see them again!

My advice is stay eith the early zone and questline for a while, at least until level 15 when you get to swap weapon bars but more likely until you get enough useful skills to FILL the ten slots plus two ultimates.

One thing to realize is there is a huge difference between a CP160 threat and a lower threat or pc scaled up to 160.

Lvl 12 features singles and doubles, one or two enemies at a time, without tons of stun or control or healing. They are built to challenge new pkayers and characters who dont have all their options and sets. At 12 you likely dont have a bar filked with a buff, a heal, a gap closer, a dot, an execute and a spammable attack. Your options are limited and the limited complecity of the lower challenge zones is keyed to that.

That lower kevel questline lets you develop the body of skillsto use.

Not saying dont dip your foot into dlc but i would think long term that content id better suited, scaled or not, once you have more resources at your disposal.

Grinding out your very first character leaves you not understanding any game mechanics. I've been in groups with max level "tanks" that didn't know how to taunt. Or dps running sword and board with heavy armor. Or my personal favorite, the bow wielding healer whose only heal is breath of life. These are things you should work out doing dungeons and such before you are max level.

Man cant thank you guys enough. This made everything so much more clear. I personally dont think "grinding" would ruin the game for me in a boredness way. Im used to grind monsters 24/7 aka Runescape. I was more worried where to start or make the wrong turn and lose out on lorebooks/skyshards or other important quests.

    Appreciate the answers !!

Imo, with One Tamriel coming so soon (October), it really doesn't matter if you do overlevel the old content by doing the dlc stuff. Once One Tamriel hits, overleveling will be a thing of the past.

What you need is an up to date 'Beginners Guide eso'. Don't need to follow them to the letter, but reading the first few categories can really help, there's a few good ones on these forums.

    Welcome to Tamriel. ^^

Yeah just found a sort of updated guide. Many are out-dated and full of negativity in the comments either about the guide or the game in general.

Youre thinking too much, explore, experience, have fun. If you go straight into the game thinking "what should I grind", you are already doing it wrong.
