What Kind of Build Does An Orc Excel at?

Quite simply, I am curious as to how one would build an orc in the current state of the game. With their passives, they don't really help much with stamina regen, nor do they have anything for magicka. They get some nice health regen, but compared to magicka/stamina regen, and considering it is the same % despite being vastly different... It just doesn't compare.


Mostly, I am considering changing my characters race, but I really do like using an Orc, but the passives don't seem to help me all that much. (Tanky dps hybrid, melee/stam)

Stam Sorc Orc, is all the rage in PvP.. PvE everything is either Dumner/Kajiit or a snowflake :-)

While the question is Orcs in general, just wanted to clarify that the char I am referring to is a DK. Perhaps not the best of decisions...

They are definitely a stam class. They do lack some sustain but have other unique passives like increased melee damage and increased sprint speed.

You could use them on any stam build but probably synergize best with the Stam Sorc class. Stam Sorc has access to Minor Expedition via Hurricane, this can stack with other sources of Major Expediton, which stacks with the Swift Warrior passive. All these things combined and you have the fastest mobility of any race/class combo in the game.

Stam Sorc also has the ability Dark Deal. It converts Magicka into Stamina and Health. It is a unique skill that can help overcome some of the Orc's shortcomings in resource management.

Also, the 4% damage increase on Melee is stronger than some people would think. Damage is calculated by both Max Stamina and Weapon Damage. So classes with 10% stamina buffs are nice, but it only affects one half of the damage equation. The 4% melee damage is calculated on top of the regular damage equation. So even though a Redguard and Orc may be wearing the same gear, the Redguard would have more stamina (10% stam), but the Orc would most likely hit harder in a Melee situation (6% stam, 4% melee damage).

If you plan on PVPing with the character it is a strong choice. They also are good in PVE, however, the speed bonus is more or less worthless in these situations. If PVE content is your main focus their are other races that are more optimal. Khajiit is currently top in terms of damage due to the crit bonus, but lack a bit in sustain. Redguard is probably 2nd in damage, but has more sustain than khajiit wiuth Adrenaline Rush.

Edit: Regarding Health Regen. Most people consider this stat relatively worthless. Health regen is 314 at base, so even with 20% increase you are only at 376. This is cut in hald in PVP due to Battle Spirit. You can see where this becomes a negligible stat. Vigor HoT ticks are something like 500% more effective in terms of restoring health.

Which leads to the Orc's new 5% healing received passive. This stat is NOT a bad stat. As stated Vigor is a strong heal and this just makes it 5% stronger.

Stam DK orc is very tanky.

I know people are loving orc stam sorcs, especially since Fengrush plays one. However, I find that my khajiit stam sorc does pretty well, with high crit rates.

Well to put it simply...if you really like orcs be one. Yes it isn't min max but who cares. Orc can play any stam race and if it brings you more joy when you play that's all that matters

I've played an Orc Templar for over two years now and still have a blast on them. When things get boring I switch them to Stamina for a bit but always end back up magicka spec'd. Stamina is the meta right now big time and I'm still magicka spec'd and having fun in PVE, PVP, Dungeons, Trials, you name it, it's a good time.

They make good scroll runners in PVP cause of their extra run speed.

Orc is a fantastic race (for Stamina). Though the passives are nice, it is their increased speed that sets them apart from others in PvP.

Watch Essa or Fengrush stream PvP sometime. The speed granted by Orc passives give them the mobility they need to survive.

The speed that Magicka Sorcs used to have in order to avoid getting run over by zergs is essentially built in as a Stamina version for Orcs. Tbh it's a gamechanging movement boost.
