So there' this article out now. mmorpg.com/gamelist.cfm/game/821/feature/11112/Elder-Scrolls-Online-All-About-the-Crown-Crates-Coming-in-One-Tamriel.html

While I personally find it disappointing that instead of actually engaging the customers here they chose to do a PR article (which would have been fine if they had ALSO chosen to engage their customers here) I found that it also left me with more questions than answers. Here are some of the things that were not answered and that many of us would like specific answers to.

Matt Firor says, "Crown Crates are obtainable exclusively in the Crown Store, and the consumables they contain are the same ones that you are probably already purchasing directly in the Crown Store. The difference is that you have a chance to get additional items in a Crown Crate – the same items that are on sale in the Crown Store. There is also a rarer chance to receive a discontinued limited-time-offer Crown Store item. The rarest items are Crown-Crate only items that we will cycle out every quarter or so for a new set."

You've also already said there would be special, exclusive mounts that will only be available via the RNG boxes.

So what we want to know is this...

1. Will there be costumes that are ONLY available via RNG boxes and that have NEVER been offered in the crown store before?
2. Will there be hairstyles that will ONLY be available via the RNG boxes?
3. Will there be tattoos that are ONLY available via the RNG boxes?
4. Will there be makeup that is ONLY available via the RNG boxes?
5. Will there be scars that are ONLY available via the RNG boxes?
6. Will there be pets that are ONLY available via the RNG boxes?
7. Will there be adornments that are ONLY available via the RNG boxes?
8. Will there be dyes that are ONLY available via the RNG boxes?
9. Will there be emotes that are ONLY available via the RNG boxes?
10. Will there be personalities that are ONLY available via the RNG boxes?
11. Will there be new hair colors that are ONLY available via the RNG boxes?
12. Will there be polymorphs that are ONLY available via the RNG boxes?
13. Will there be trinkets that are ONLY available via the RNG boxes?

Also, regarding the "gems" Firor had this to say, "There is a very good chance – especially if you are a regular collector of Crown Store items – that you will receive a collectible from a Crown Crate that you already have. When that happens, instead of a duplicate item, you will receive a new form of currency, the Crown Gem. You can then spend Crown Gems in a new section of the Crown Store where you can purchase the item that you want – including Crown Crate-exclusive items. The gem store will contain all of the collectibles available in all the Crown Crates, so you will be able to acquire the collectible you want, even if you don’t get it directly from a Crown Crate."

This does not address players like me who have deliberately passed on many costumes or other items because I did not like them or want them. Yet if I get one of these items that I did not ever want in the first place it appears that I am stuck with it and cannot "trade it in" for "gems" to put towards an item I DO want. Is this in fact the case?

These are the questions I, and many others, would like the answers to @ZOS_MattFiror , @ZOS_GinaBruno , @ZOS_JessicaFolsom . Can you please answer them? Doing so will likely allay much of the discontent your customers have been feeling about this new and under-explained development. Thank you.

Why not just wait and see what happens when they release these boxes. You knowing these answers will not change how they implement these boxes.

What would be the point in allowing you to trade in the costume you don't want. Wouldn't that eliminate the whole random thing about these boxes. If they wanted to just straight up sell the items from the crates they would, and basically that is what you are wanting to do by asking if you can trade in things you don't want.

If you already own it, you get Gems.
If you don't own it and you receive it, even if you don't like it, it's YOURS.

I was very disappointed they used another website to discuss this matter instead of here . That says a LOT about how important forums community is comparing to other places . Your Fan base is right HERE ZOS . Those people over there are not exclusively with this game .

Good questions OP , I hope they will answer .

I'm wondering what the value of crown gems will be . For instance , will I need to get three or four duplicates before my gems are high enough to get new exclusive crown store mount ? Or will I have enough for getting one duplicate costume to trade in for mount ? What is exchange rate for crown gems compared to exclusive crown box mounts ?

Yeah reading through comments made by people who don't have to fear being banned from the forums is certainly eye-opening. Maybe if they refuse to listen to us here they might take a look at reaction there? One can hope I suppose.

But seriously, at this point all I really want are answers to the questions I posed in the OP. The fact that they have not addressed them on their own is troubling.

um...yeah. That is the whole point.

Most of the people posting that they will not touch the gamble boxes have said, myself included, that if they offered the limited time items we wanted, skins, costumes, or mounts, outright, we would happily buy them. Which would be the income ZOS wants, apparently.

If they are only going to offer the limited time items we wanted in the gamble boxes, we aren't going to buy them, therefore no income that ZOS wants.

If they would offer the limited time items for outright sale, AND put together gamble boxes for people who want to believe in RNGesus, I'd have no problem with it. However, for myself, I've seen how well the RNG works in this game with weapon/armor drops from bosses and nirncrux in Craglorn. There is no way I'd ever buy a RNG box of consumables I don't use and costumes I don't want for the slight chance of a possibility of maybe getting the limited time mount I do want.

Nevermind the larger conversation which you refuse to let others have in peace, reguarding the buisness model, the worth of said model, and the impact it has on the companies view of the playerbase.

Say what you want about the other people disagreeing in this thread, their at least -having a discussion-, and not walking in here looking for someone to put down.

No, it's not any better than the senseless hate. It's just hate of a different stripe. Same bollocks, different dress.

This is true, but we already have examples of other games bringing in the Gamble Boxes then putting the rest of the game into the toilet for the sake of a quick buck.

Look at SWTOR, they've basically thrown aside the entire game's development but month in, month out without fail they have another new Gamble Box full of reskinned cosmetics ready for sale! That game might still be worth playing if they invested some actual development into the game itself, but even recently "Look, we've made it more exciting to open the boxes! Hooray!".

Here's hoping ZOS has the sense to not follow suit.

I just feel that since ZOS is going through with this regardless of what their customers want they need to at the least be completely transparent about what it entails. I don't think it's out of line to ask what the percentage chance is for getting items OTHER than consumables either and how that is determined. 400 crowns may be a small amount of money but customers are entitled to know what kind of return they can reasonably expect for their investment.

This is the model and we should all be used to it by now. The change happened when they switched to b2p. I don't like RNG boxes either, but it is what it is. So far ZOS's implementation of such b2p game standards has been decently thought out to avoid the plague that is p2w. Let's hope it stays this way, only time will tell.

If it isn't finalized, why the interviews spreading inaccurate information from Matt Firor? Why release incomplete, inaccurate information then accuse people of over-reacting to the incomplete inaccurate information in other interviews/articles?

Releasing accurate information would be a way to keep the over-reactions to a minimum. Might not stop the "angry", but that will happen in any case, according to your post.

When is the best time to attempt to get something changed? Before its fully implemented, or after its fully implemented, when it will require a hotfix or a full patch? If the answer is "before" then you have the reason for the threads.

    - They don't affect gameplay;
    - They are not mandatory to buy.

    Get over it.

Why are you saying this again? It was already explained to you that none of these touch the issues, and it was explained to you by multiple people in at least two other threads.

The so called explanations on the other topics were even more shallow and even more dull. Really, there is no reason to fear theses boxes, its totally nosense to do what people are doing toward the subject. I'm just being as vocal as people hating/speculating/spreding bs toward these boxes are.

If you think so, then why don't you tackle these explanations instead, which are the actual reasons why people oppose the boxes?
Just so that everyone knows, my Altmer still can't have black hair. About a dozen of Altmer NPCs in the game have black hair. Just saying.

    Meet my characters:
    Command: Do the thing.

Zadarri, Khajiit Fist of Thalmor: The thing was done, as commanded.
Durza gra-Maghul, Orc blacksmith: The thing was done perfectly, in the most efficient way.
Tegwen, Bosmer troublemaker: You can't prove I didn't do the thing.
Sings-Many-Songs, Argonian fisher: Sure, I'll do the thing... Eventually. Maybe.
Aerindel, Altmer stormcaller: After extensive research, I've come to the conclusion that doing the thing would be a waste of resources.
Liliel, Dunmer pyromancer: Aerindel said I shouldn't do the thing. Something about "resources".
Gyda Snowcaller, Nord cryomancer: I will find a way to do it that won't waste resources and make Aerindel proud of me.
Beatrice Leoriane, Breton vampire: I persuaded someone else into doing the thing. You are welcome, dear.
Sahima, Redguard performer: Doing the thing sounds awfully unpleasant and really not my problem.
Ellaria Valerius, Imperial priestess: I'll pray to the Eight for the thing to be done, if it is Their will.
