Best is a kind of wishy washy term because you can get very creative. I know, for example Marksman armor can be great for a bow user. It's a PVP set but should be reasonably priced in the guild stores.

The expensive part is upgrading the set or finding a matching monster helm/shoulder. Word of advice, if you're purchasing a set purchase each piece except the helmet/shoulder so you can more quickly adjust in the future should you ever be blessed by the RNG gods.

Ohh my OP. Where to begin? I've been playing for 9 months, and I'm still learning. The problem is that things are always changing. New sets are added, and skills are changed. My best advice is to join a guild. Explore the guild recruitment section of the forum for your platform, and find a guild that welcomes new players. You'll have a safe space to ask questions there, but more importantly listening or reading guild chat will help you discover questions you didn't even know you wanted to ask. =)

My rookie mistake. I used 7 peices of the same set gear: vampires kiss (because it sounded cool even though no one uses it) thinking it would give give me the set bonuses 2 and 3 again since I had 5 plus 4 pieces. Nope. 5 was the limit. I was running around with 4 unless peices of gear. =) good times.

Also, sets come from different places. Each zone has 3 crafted sets, but some require knowing up to 9 traits. If you need one of these ask your friendly neighborhood crafter. PVP players get mail for every 20k AP they get. Vicious Death is usually the most expensive of these but it serves no purpose in PVE. Then there are sets that you find out in the wild, like Briarheart in Wrothgar and monster drops from dungeon bosses and Undaunted chests.

Still, if you're a new level 50 with no CP don't gear up. Wait until you're at 160 CP or you're gonna waste a lot of gold.

    Sets

if you don't have yet CP160, than for stamina sorc

recommended basic set: 5 pcs. medium Hunding's Rage (crafted)
secondary set: 2 pcs. medium Night Mother's Gaze + all weapons (crafted)
jewellery 3 pcs. some blue/Purple in your level, once you get CP160 can change for Agility set

Archer also could make a good use from Twice-Born-Star 5 pcs. set and use both Shadow and Thief mundus Stones.
In those sets you could start farming monster gears.

Instead of suggesting you about builds, gears and metas, I'll suggest you that, if it's your first character, go play the game. Do the questlines, the sidequests (some are much better than the questlines themselves - Keeper of Bones, I'm looking at you S2) Then you go to DLCs and do the same thing.

All this "work" will take A LOT of time, regardless how much you play for day/week, but at least for once you'll know the game you paid for.

Not to mention you'll gather many more CPs that not only will help you doing harder dungeons and maybe even trials, but will prevent you being slighted and ignored while requesting groups in zone chat

So Stam Sorc DPS build then? Well it's a bit outdated in some ways but this should give you a pretty general idea of what you have to work with and then you can ask about it further once you've chosen what you want: http://elderscrollsonline.wiki.fextralife.com/Sets

Well, there are two other alliances to play, as well as all of the DLC storylines. You could also do dungeons, but you might have a hard time with the scaling in bad gear. I honestly don't think it is a bad idea to gear up at level 50. It will be cheap to craft the gear you need. As someone already recommended, 5 hundings rage, 3/4 might mothers gaze is a very good combo. Just use random jewelry. Do t bother upgrading beyond blue quality. Save your money for your cp 160 gear.

You can totally gear up now, just don't waste your gold tempers. Golding out a single set can cost over 500K gold. Most folks don't have that just laying around.
