Stamina Brawler build - is there one?

So my friend just picked up the game and we grinded to cp 160. He's playing a Redguard stamina Nightblade
I threw together a standard "meta" dps build when he hit cp160 (3x Agility, 4x Leki, 4x Vicecanon), all Medium, Impenetrable, 2h/bow.

However, he keeps dying instantly to random crap all the time, so i was thinking I'd get him something sturdier, I'm just not sure what. Any suggestions? Is Black Rose nightblade a thing?
Pretty much all stamina NB build guides that I find go full medium glass-canon it seems.

He's mostly going to run duo with me (transmute, 5x heavy Magplar) and sometimes trio with me and a Black Rose Templar or Magicka Sorc. He'll never or at least very rarely solo.

Black Rose anything is a thing, I run it on NB and it works well. Try 5 Black Rose, 2 Blood Spawn/Velindreth, 3 Agility.

Yea Black Rose with 7 heavy is kind of meta for non-gank stamina builds.

If you want to try something a bit different. 5 armor master, 2 bloodspawn, 4 marksman in at least 5 medium. Use shuffle and something that gives you the major armor buff and you are pretty tanky with a whole lot of regen.

Thanks for the tips. I'm kind of thinking it's a 75% l2p issue, but in the meanwhile I'll just do what it takes to keep him alive :P

Since when is 3x Agility 4x Leki 4x Vicecannon meta tho?

I meant meta as in the playstyle... I just bought some cheap stam+dmg+regen sets for him to start of with.
