Group Dungeons - difficulty spike?

Hey guys - not sure if anyone can answer this for me....

Me and my brother have been going through group dungeons as two players with only moderate difficulty. We die occasionally, learn the enemy movements and then become successful.

However for some reason as soon as we both hit level 50 and started ascending through "champion levels" the enemy difficulty seems to have just spiked. We even revisited dungeons wed done with ease and found the basic enemies could take a lot more and deal a lot more - out of line with our levels completely!

Didn't know why this was the case - does out gear need to be of the absolute maximum level to restore this equilibrium?

Cheers guys!

There is huge difference between vet dungeons and normal dungeons. Check in your group tab to see which one are you guys running.

Are we talking group instanced dungeons or public dungeons? Group dungeons are meant for 4 people.

    It's not veteran it's normal.

And it's group not public. I know group dungeons are designed for 4 but I've seen people solo them and like I said, they were running smoothly for me and my brother until we hit level 50. It was like becoming level 50 changed the difficulty too much.

I'm going to assume it's my gear that has caused the spike :/

If you've out leveled your gear by quite a bit that could be your problem. As you level up only certain stats will get boosted. I want to say just your max stats (Magic, stamina and health), while your weapon/spell damage, recovery and resistances are improved through your gear.

If you haven't yet, make sure your brother has dungeons set to normal too, because if he's group leader then it will be set to what he has it set for. Probably obvious, but figured I'd throw it out there.

The same thing is true with the story quests. If you skip doing the main story until after you hit CP levels they are extremely difficult compared to if you'd done them at the levels intended. When I did that on one character I was getting killed 3-4 times per mission. Missions that had previously been easy that I'd never had any remote trouble with. The monsters don't just scale up with their stats, they also start using different tactics and skills. They start using CC, and all sorts of other stuff to make your life a living hell.

    Yeah both set to normal.

Although it sucks I'm glad someone else is experiencing similar things! :p Looks like I'll be hunting down some better gear and some dungeon companions in the meantime!

And you're right asata the enemies seem to just learn how to best use their skill set alongside their stat boost! :p

As someone said your gear could be part of the problem. If you used sets or made your gear blue/purple as you leveled when you are scaled your stats are actually better then they would be as a 50. For example as i leveled my NB i normally had between 24-28k hps. At level 50 i ended up around 18k. That is a fairly large swing. And that was running the same sets at the proper level the whole time.

There is a spike when you reach Champion level scaled stuff. A boss at level 49 could have 200k health, and then have 600k at CP10, maxing out at 900k at CP160.

I'll echo what some other people are saying and suggest that your gear may be a big part of the issue. There's a significant difference between (for example) level 40 gear and CP10 gear. I don't know what level gear you're using, but if you update it to be as high as possible for your CP you should have a significantly easier time. I'd think that getting CP10 gear, and then upgrading at about CP50, again at CP100, and then again at CP160 would be good.

Gear aside, however, there is a spike in difficulty between level 40-49 and CP10. You'll adapt pretty quickly, I'm sure.

When you're leveling dungeons scale you to 160 and it over-inflates your stats. Once you hit 50 and have to rely on your actual, unmodified stats the game becomes a bit more "real". That could be where the difficulty is coming from. You'll just have to gear up and things will be easy again. Until you try certain vets.

From what OP says I believe they're entering the dungeons just as the two of them, and not queuing for them. If you enter the dungeon without queuing then it scales to the level of the group leader, so they wouldn't have been scaling up.

Thanks for all the comments guys - I will go out and find some materials to craft decent gear!

Kind of wish I'd done all the dungeons pre-level 50 now!

Tbh this will encourage me to invest more in guilds and finding dungeon partners as well as spending more time on my gear quality.

Thanks again for all your input!

Nah, they're more fun when there's a bit of challenge. Wait until you try vet dungeons! Those have a bigger difficulty spike. Of course, as long as you don't give up you'll learn to spank them too.

This was a very informative thread and I'm glad to have read this one, as it explained why my group at times has difficulty in some dungeons.

By the by, thanks to UrQuan for pointing out again about the spike between levels 40-49 and CP 10, that's where I was having the most difficulty. (I also now want to make a screen name like Druuge or KoarAh thanks to seeing their tag

Maybe some but your gear still has major effect on your performance. Just started leveling new char and noticed that once your gear is about 10 levels lower than you are they are not that effective anymore and you seem to be taking more damage than before and so on.

True, but mobs no longer lvl up and don't get new abilities. It's the players under lvl 50 that get boosted.

Between CP 10 and CP 160 or so, you're going to feel squishy due to scaling, and it's not smooth. You'll sometimes level up and feel even squishier. Since the cap is at 160, by the time you're CP 180, you're going to start feeling like you're above the mobs. But more important than your CP will be your ability to collect and invest in a good set of gear. The difference between 1500 damage and 2500 damage is the right armor with the right enchants.

imo, wait until you're cp 160 (or cp 150) for gear crafting, the quest gear you get is decent enough and it's always for your level and you get it for free on top of that :D

the scaling system that came with 1T gives you more power and resources to compensate for the lack of passives and CPs. Gear also play a factor- specifically what gear you wear and what level it is. As soon as you hit lv50 you should have lv50 gear, for starters. Also, go get those Skyshards and Skill Points, and invest them into passives that will boost your build. There are always passives you can ignore depending on what build you are running, but investing in the right passives will significantly boost you power and survivability. Passives are a HUGE part of this game that tend to get overlooked a lot. Specifics would be dependent on your build, class, role, race, etc....

It makes no sense to add power for the lack of CPs since a level 5 character can have 600 CP. That would just lead to overpowered low level characters due to scaling.
