Can someone help with membership cost?

So the last time I played was in 2014. I understand that things have changed? I had read that the monthly fee has gone away but when i signed into my account, it is prompting me to decide on a subscription? I am confused. It shows I have the ESO Tamriel Unlimited PC Digital Imperial Edition. Do I need to buy anything else before I can play?

A subscription is now optional. You can play the game without susbscribing, but if you do subscribe you get a number of perks including access to all DLCs, a bag that holds functionally infinite amounts of crafting materials, the ability to dye costumes, a stipend of crowns to spend in the crown store, bonus XP, etc.

Nope. You should be able to launch the game and play. There is an optional subscription called eso+ that give you 10% bonus xp and gold, access to all DLC, costume dying, crafting bags, and a few other perks. It is about $15 a month. If you are interested in trying the DLC I recommend subscribing for one month because you also get 1500 crowns.

If your a Crafter, you may want to subscribe, otherwise, load the game up and have fun.

If you need some guilds to get into, send me an email in game to @Nestor and I can get you hooked up.
Enjoy the game, life is what you really want to be worried about.

Regarding DLCs. Now let's assume that I had never bought ESO+ but continued to play since 2014. Would I have needed to pay something by now? Without ESO+, am I limited to certain content or is everything available? I'm just wondering if DLC are maps or specific content that needs to be paid for. So let's say I buy ESO+ for one month to try it out. Does the unlimited bag space work for just one month as well? I'm guessing so.

I know it's a lot of questions and I thank anyone who can answer them

I guess I'm also curious what someone would have to pay who is new to ESO. Are they limited to the core game unless they buy all the DLCs?

You only get access to the DLC's if you have either bought them from the Crown Store or Subscribed. Some things you might want, like Motifs and certain item sets would be easier to get if you have the DLC's. Of course you can buy them in the Guild Kiosks from others who have farmed them.

You could always subscribe for a month, see what the DLCs are all about. Of course, you have to get through some of the base game to best enjoy the DLCs as there are some things you would want to invest the skill points in. Although, you can be a Thief in the base game if you want. Just not be in the Thieves Guild.

So, in your case, load up the base game, play it for a bit to see if you want to continue on and subscribe (or not subscribe as the case may be). Then subscribe for one month and see what that offers you. I will say that Wrothgar (Orsinium) is an excellent place to grind out levels and champ points once you have finished up the base content.

Great information Nestor. Many thanks! My have is in the process of downloading content as I can well imagine 2 years of content may take awhile. I'm not remembering what characters I had but you mentioned the, "base content". Is that well distinguished from the DLC content and approx what level does that finish up at?

I understand what you mean by it taking awhile in the base game before I even come across the DLC content. I'm wondering how much of it comes early. Maybe the thieves guild?

All the DLC content scales you up when you go in. So you can do Thieves Guild at level 10, level 45, level 50 with 160cp, whatever. You'll never outlevel it and it will never be overleveled for you.

You can get to max level with nothing but the base game, DLC is entirely optional.
