Would that be 5 Julianos then? for the damage

Depends. If you want PvE, 5x Julianos, 3x Willpower, 2x Kena, 2x Torugs Pact, 1x Inferno Staff.
For PvP, don't listen to anyone else. Sorcerers are still very strong in PvP. I play one and it always, ALWAYS takes around 4-5 people to kill me. Or 2 Templars spamming Radiant. Here's my set up:

    5x Elegance
    5x Kagrenacs
    1x Molag Kena

    Inferno Staff:
    Streak
    Force Pulse
    Crystal Frags
    Dampen Magic
    Hardened Ward

    Resto Staff:
    Velocious Curse
    Daedric Minefield
    Power Surge
    Defensive Rune
    Healing Ward

    Overload:
    Streak
    Radiant Magelight
    Crystal Frags
    Velocious Curse
    Hardened Ward

The key to this setup is the overload. DO NOT SPAM IT!!!! Use it as an Execute since mages fury is garbage. Once you proc a frag, switch to overload, hit em with the frag, then when they are down, slam them with a overload. If it hits for 10k, you win.

So what makes Torug/Kena better than Magnus?

IMHO it would be 6 Elegant (jewelries, swords and staff), 5 Julianos / Twice-Born Star, 2 Molag Kena.

Swords on your back bar for execute and overload.

Having an Elegant staff on your front bar will give you the four pieces bonus during the fight, which means extra Spell Damage.

Two Molag Kena is for execute, overload or if you have magicka pool to spare because it will eat your magicka fast otherwise.

But this setup although very good might not be popular because Elegant stuff is VERY expensive in the market because it's VERY difficult to get, specially swords, with so many traits.

I am keeping to crafted sets  I am not rich in any way, so that's best for me  Not really gonna use Undaunted sets either as I hate grinding :persevere: So it seems that it's 5 Julianos, then either magnus or twiceborn? how about weapon traits? I thought I would take 1 heal staff, 1 destro

if you like daedric summoning you should check out the Necropotence set, you get tons of magicka when your pet is up

    Do you have monster sets?

If you are starting from scratch, I would make the following:
    -Heavy Julianos Chest - Divines
    -Medium Julianos Pants - Divines
-Light Julianos Shoes, Gloves, Belt - Divines
-Light Torugs Head and Shoulder - Divines
    -Torugs Pact Swords x2 Sharpened
    -Torugs Inferno Staff Sharpened
-Purchase 3 Willpower pieces of Jewelry in Arcane, enchant with spell damage (one regen while learning is okay)

We craft this way so that you can upgrade around your main 5-piece set when you get monster sets and VMA weapons. A 4 piece of torugs pact is certainly not ideal for DPS, but its a great place to start. The health bonus is really handy and the spell resistance is not bad on your execute bar when learning. Also, 2 torugs swords will serve you well when you upgrade the other pieces.

The first place to focus on upgrades is to get a Kena piece in there. Divines is the best, and doesnt matter if its head or shoulder. If you already have one awesome. If its not light, dont worry, just adjust either your chest or pants. You always want 5 light, 1 medium, 1 heavy to maximize undaunted passives.

If you have 2 kena, that works as well, also 2 pieces of Nerienth is probably even better for most people. That would be my second focus. Finally, get the grind on for your VMA staff. Until then, any sharpened staff will work just fine.

There are also some cool new builds coming out that dont require a VMA staff, which is nice. They do require Infallible Aether jewelry which comes from trials (cant be bought), so probably putting the cart before the horse to talk about that now. This setup will get you in the game.

Bullet proof bars to learn sorc as a PVE DPS (not necessarily min/max DPS to the extreme):

Inferno Staff: Force Pulse, Crystal Frags, Elemental Blockade, Bound Aegis, Inner light, Meteor (or overload)
DW: Mages Wrath, Liquid Lighting, Power Surge, Bound Aegis, Inner light, Overload.
Overload Bar: Mages Wrath (or winged twilight or shield), Liquid Lighting, Power Surge, Bound Aegis, Inner light, Overload

In AoE fights, you can swap Crystal Frags for Elemental Ring. You can also drop Surge for boundless Storm, but then you must run spell power pots. I wouldnt bother when learning, but it is more damage. Surge gives you spell damage buff and a nice steady heal. You wouldnt run it in a competitive trial, but its great in most PVE content. If you are really struggling to surive, you could throw a shield on your bar somewhere. You can put it on your back bar in place of Inner light. If you do, just be sure to execute from your overload bar. You want the crit and extra magic it provides.

The rotation is straight forward. Keep Power surge up at all times. Reapply Liquid Lightning and Elemental blockade on cooldown (never before). They are about the same duration, so you can always do them in order. When those three things are going, medium attack weave Force Pulse. Weave your Crystal frags whenever they proc for an instant cast, but dont hard cast them (that means casting them when they have a cast time). When the boss is at execute (19% on a sorc), swap to your DW bar and spam Mages Wrath, while keeping up your skills from before.

If you have ultimate, you can switch to your overload bar and spam your light attacks. This is crazy DPS for about a minute. In most 4-man stuff, that is plenty of time. Make sure to keep up surge and liquid lightening while doing this. If going for a straight overload burn, you can add more damage skills to your overload bar and run potions. Boundless Storm and Winged Twilight are the go to.

We try to keep inner light on every bar, and definitely keep bound aegis on every bar. It is a very powerful toggle ability that gives a big boost to magic and resistance. Toggles must be on every bar or you will need to recast it every time you swap.

Edit: Magnus is a solid replacement to Torugs pact if you never plan to upgrade. If you know you will never upgrade or dont mind recrafting, then Magnus is probably better than Torgus. Stay away from TBS unless you are in a serious raid with proper raid buffs.

Ehm thx Oreyn, but you might have missed a few pointers  I am not using monster sets, only crafted, as I hate grinding, and am low on cash :) Therefore, VMA weapons are not considered either.. Only stuff that I can make myself.. So I guess my question to you is the same as I have asked the others so far.. Why is the set suggestion you propose, better than others?

Yeah, the thread developed a bit as I was typing. Haha. Julianos is the best 5-piece DPS that is craftable outside of a raid setting. Raid settings are were you have tanks and healers blasting warhorns every 10 seconds. In that case, TBS will out perform it. Every magic toon should have a set of Julianos in their bag. Pretty much every build in this game starts with a base 5 piece set to accomplish your goal. In this case, your goal is damage, so Julianos for the win.

I propose the gear as I did because it does allow you to upgrade if you change your mind. 2 years ago, i never thought I would be competing for leaderboard spots in trials, but here we are. haha.

Like I said in my edit, if you never plan to upgrade, then swap magnus for your head shoulder and weapons. Its a little more magic focused, but you will be a touch squishier. You might not want to grind per se, but I am assuming you plan to run dungeons. You will end up with more monster pieces than you know what to do with if you keep playing. I have 200+ and counting.

Elegant is a cool set for sorcs, but it can be spendy to get the right pieces. It is also a set designed to make your overload hit harder, not necessarily boost your front bar DPS. Julianos is more consistant damage to get your feet wet.

As for being broke, well, you cant craft jewelry. You can certainly look for alternatives to willpower, but they wont be as good. Willpower gives bigger bonuses than other sets. You could also start with healthy pieces which are really cheap, and upgrade as you get gold. on PC/NA, an arcane ring is going to cost 50-60k and a neck will be 10-15k if you look around a bit. (it is just not that hard to get 150k gold)

As for the traits, sharpened and divines give the best DPS. You go all divines to buff your Thief mundus stone. In terms of upgrading gear, you number one priority is a gold staff, followed by gold swords, followed by big armor pieces (chest helm legs) followed by small armor pieces.

If I didnt mention, we run swords to buff our spell damage on both the overload bar and our execute bar. As for VMA, well it is a daunting task that you might never undertake, which is perfectly fine. If you do however, this setup will be wonderful. All you would have to do is swap your execute for a shield.

Finally, resto staff should only be worn by a healer. Not your job to heal in PVE. If solo, you can run it, but in a group, its a big DPS loss.
