It sounds to me like the maintenance included a fix for the bug that had caused the gear to go missing and that he made a point of checking the inventory after the maintenance to ensure that the fix had worked and the gear was reinstated. That's better than just replying along the lines of "It should have been fixed by today's maintenance and this ticket is now closed" without even checking.
